Jumbo Peppa Pig Dominoes
by Candyperfumegirl Like most three year old girls my daughter absolutely adores Peppa Pig and has a range of different toys featuring the character. I am always on the look out for games I can sit and play with with my children that will not only be fun but educational too, so when I spotted these Peppa Pig Giant Dominoes on Amazon I was immediately drawn ... to them. After a little reading up (I always read the reviews on Amazon before any purchase!) I added them to my basket and awaited delivery. The Peppa Pig Dominoes are widely in available to buy varying in price depending upon the retailer. They are currently priced at £7.99 on Amazon plus free super saver delivery is offered on this item. The Peppa Pig Dominoes arrived a few days after placing my order. As always with Amazon the product was well (if not overly) packaged. The dominoes themselves come in a sturdy durable cardboard box the box which can be kept and used to store the dominos in. Of course being a childs product the box is very bright, fun and appealing. At the top of the box "Peppa Pig" is written in fun pink lettering with the words "Dominoes" underneath. The manufacturers brand logo is clearly displayed, this is a large red elephant with "Jumbo" written inside. The main picture is of course of Peppa Pig smiling and looking very happy in her usual red dress. The background is a lovely blue sky with a few clouds and a yellow sun. Also on the front of the box is a plastic "window" through which we can see an example of one of the dominoes. Three pictures in the bottom corner inform us that this product is for children aged 3+, for 2-4 players and will take approx 15 minutes per game. Further information and Instructions are given on the back of the box There are 28 dominoes tiles in total, each measuring 5x10 cm. The fact that these dominoes are larger and chunkier than regular dominoes means they are ideal for little hand. They are made of strong white plastic, which are easy to wipe clean should they get a little mucky. Instead of numbers like on regular dominoes we have bright colourful pictures featuring the characters: Peppa Pig, George Pig, Rebecca Rabbit, Suzy Sheep, Candy Cat, Danny Dog and Zoe Zebra. The pictures are printed onto the dominos and have a slight shine to them. Playing Peppa Pig dominoes is fairly similar to regular dominoes and rules can be changed or varied to suit. The general rules given are to begin by shuffling the dominoes then giving each player five each. The remaining ones are to be left face down and used as a "bank". The first player places down a domino featuring two identical character pictures in the centre, the next player must match one of their dominoes with the one placed in the centre. If the player does not have one that matches they must take one from the "bank". The game continues like this. The winner is the first player to use up all their dominoes. We have had this Peppa Pig dominoes game for around a year and in that time they have been played with quiet regularly. It is an enjoyable game that is easy enough for my three year old to understand yet still appropriate for older children. Whilst my eldest daughter would not pick these out to play herself, she is happy enough to play this with her little sister. My youngest daughter is fast approaching her fourth birthday and I see no reason why she will not continue to play with these dominoes for quiet sometime to come. The dominoes themselves are of a high quality, they are strong and durable. The character pictures are still as bright and vibrant as the day we bought them and we have had no problem with the pictures fading. I highly recommend these dominoes for any little Peppa Pig fan. Jumbo Peppa Pig Giant Playing Cards
by hanmillie When my little niece comes over to visit it is important to us that we have a selection of toys and games that can keep her mind occupied whilst the adults have a natter. Now my niece being only two and a half is an avid fan of Peppa Pig and has watched a number of the TV programmes; hence when we spotted a box of these Jumbo Peppa Pig ... playing cards in Debenhams before Christmas we were determined to buy them to add to our ever expanding toy box. ==Peppa Pig== To those who have not heard of Peppa Pig, or simply have not had the pleasure of watching an episode, Peppa Pig is a children's pre-school character that has a number of shows which are shown throughout the week on children's television. The characters in the show are all very simply drawn with the large heads and small bodies that you would expect to see in a children's drawing and each character is named after an animal with the names corresponding with the first letter of the animal, For example, Peppa Pig, Suzy Sheep and Candy Cat. Each character is also very brightly coloured with the programme often providing educational content as well as fun viewing. There is a huge amount of merchandise associated with Peppa Pig and this includes toys, games and even children's bedding and cushions. ==The Game== This game is packaged inside a cardboard box which opens to reveal a set of cards neatly stacked inside. The game includes a set of 36 cards which are each illustrated with the picture of a character form the show with their name written underneath the picture. Each illustration is highly bright and colourful to look at making it appeal to even the youngest of ages and the cards are large in size, roughly the size of two playing cards so that they can be picked up easily by small hands. This game is aimed at children of an age of 3+ however; being that our niece loves the show and is a very bright little girl at two and a half we knew she wouldn't have any problems with this game. ==Price and Availability== This game can be bought for around £4 - £6 from most good toy stores and department stores. Indeed we picked ours up from Debenhams for around £4.99. However, it can also be bought online from such stores as Amazon for £4 making it a bargain in my opinion. ==The Game Strategy== As well as playing traditional snap these cards can also be used to play three other games, a brief description of each being as follows:- * Giant Snap - In this game the cards are split between the numbers of players. Each player lays one of their cards over the previously laid card and when two of the cards match the players shout out 'snap'. The quickest player to shout is then allowed to collect the pile of cards in the middle and thus increase their chances of winning. This is a very effective game with our niece who finds the concept of snap very easy and yells it at the top of her lungs much to the delight of our neighbours. * Giant Pairs - This is our nieces' favourite of the four games and it is good in my opinion as it tests her memory. The cards are laid face down on the floor and each player takes it in turns to turn two cards over. If the characters match then the player gets to collect the matching cards and the player with the most cards at the ends wins. * Giant Happy Families - This game involves selecting a family of characters that you want to collect at the beginning of the game, for example four Peppa Pigs. You then simply go round the group in turn asking each other for the characters you need to complete your set. The first person to get four of the same wins. This version of the game works better in my opinion when you have a few people playing and we therefore try and rope in the adults to make this game more fun for our niece. * Giant Dinosaur - within the pack of cards there are four 'George and his dinosaur' cards. To do this game three of the dinosaur cards are removed from the pack and the players try and match their pairs until the player left with the dinosaur card at the end of the game is the loser. A number of the game options can be played with only two people however, there are times when it is best to have four players at which point in our house the adults put down their coffee mugs much to the amusement of our niece and join in. Although these cards are great when used as a game and are very interactive my niece also loves picking up the cards and looking at the colourful characters underneath. They are therefore a great distraction as they can keep her happy for a good hour at a time plus their small size means that they can be taken in the car for longer trips. I must admit that I did think she would tire of the cards as we wheel them out during each visit however she still loves them and we are often referred to as the 'Peppa Game' house as a result. ==My Opinion and Summary== In my experience this is a highly practical and fun game for young children and the colourful cards and characters keep their mind focussed which is great in contrast to sticking them in front of the television. My cards, although quite sturdy, are beginning to look a little frayed around the edges after hours of use and I will therefore probably replace mine in a few weeks or so. However the reasonable price of the cards means that the cost of replacement will not set you back a lot of money. This is a game that my niece loves, it has taught her the basics of group games and has provided hours of fun. I would therefore highly recommend these cards to all like minded Peppa Pig addicts. This game scores a very good five stars out of five from me. Thanks for reading! x This review is also posted on Ciao under the same user name. Read the complete review |

Jumbo Peppa Pig Giant Playing Cards
by collywogs1984 Well, I felt I should write a review on Peppa Pig Playing Cards, I have to be honest I bought these cards as a "fill a gap in the stocking" kind of gift, cheap and cheerful, I spent around £3.99 on them. I have to say I never thought my daughter would bother with them as it's not like all the other exciting (more ... expensive may I add) presents that she got but I regret the day I ever opened them!! The cards come in a basic cardboard box. The cards themselves are larger than normal playing cards so are easier to handle. They have a glossy finish and are bright and colourful. There is a selection of the Peppa characters on the face fronts from Peppa, George to Candy Cat and Zoe Zebra. Each of the characters is dressed up in fancy dress and their names are also on the cards for those who are not in with the Peppa craze. There is also a helpful little game menu (designed as a playing card) that gives instructions on playing a selection of cards games. My daughter is 3 years old and has now mastered the art of playing snap, she loves this game and will play it over and over and eventually when she does get bored she launches them around the room to watch them fly or sits and tells me all about each of the characters and what their wearing. There are other games on the menu however they seem to be aimed at older children which doesn't really fit in well with the age range for Peppa Pig fans. Overall this is a cheap and cheerful toy/game that keeps toddlers happy and is great for a bit of one to one time between me and my wee one. Read the complete review |
