Just Like Home Frying Pan with Food
by emmad5689 When it was my eldest daughters birthday in June her Godfather decided to take her to Toys R Us and let her pick her own birthday present, he didn't want to leave out my younger daughter so he bought her this set. The set came from Toys R us and the Just Like Home range is their own range so this is the only place you can buy ... it unless you pick it up on a second hand site. The set costs £4.99 which I thought was a decent price for what you get. The set came packaged in a plastic net with a simple cardboard piece attached to it with the name of the company, the name of the range and the fact that the toy is advised for ages 3 years and up although my daughter was only 21 months when she was bought it. The set comprises of a frying pan made of sturdy plastic and is bright pink in colour which is always a hit in my house as both girls love pink. The frying pan is slightly bigger than a tea plate for the pan and then has a sturdy thick handle easy for children to hold onto. You get numerous breakfast items in the set such as an apple, a bunch of bananas, some sort of multicoloured hash although I have no idea what it is, eggs, croissants, streaky bacon, some sort of diced meat, sausages, cereal, waffle and a carton of milk. I think this is a really great set which covers lots of different breakfast choices. When Emily first got the set she would put the food in the pan and wiggle it about a bit but that was all she did with it. As she has got a little older she will pretend to make food and even uses the frying pan to flip the food although there isn't any pancakes in the set. She loves putting food on the plates from her tea sets and bringing them to use for us to have to pretend to eat our food. She gets a lot of enjoyment out of this set and I find it great value and really durable apart from the milk carton and cereal box which were ruined within a couple of days. A great set to encourage imaginatory play. Read the complete review |

Just Like Home Tea Set and Tray
by baby-cakes My daughter turned two at Christmas last year and one of the things she was to be receiving was a kitchen so i wanted her to have some other accessories to play with, so one of the extras my mum bought her was the Just Like Home Tea Set. It has turned out to be more popular than the actual kitchen!!! The tea set is made up of ... a teapot, four cups, four saucers, four spoons, milk jug and a sugar bowl and all come on a good sized plastic tray. While the colours of the set are the primary colours i wouldn't say it is necessarily brightly coloured but it is an appealing set for children. I would say it is quite a basic set and have since seen others that appear better in my opinion, but saying that my daughter loves it and may not have enjoyed a different one just as much. The set isn't very large but it isn't too small for toddlers to play with, i think it is just an ideal size for little hands! My daughter has a really good imagination and a large part of her play is role play and this set is just fantastic for that purpose, she loves to pretend to make me a cup of tea (or a brew as she calls it) and she likes to make me sit on the floor on a little rug and have the drink with her. If i'm busy she will quite happily get a teddy and doll to sit down and make them a drink and i love the fact that at two years old she has the imagination to do this. In addition to the tea set, my daughter likes to put a plate of food on the tray to serve to me too, usually something random like broccoli or strawberry! The recommended age for this tea set is 18 months+ which is a good age to start to get their imaginations running! The set is really durable even though i wouldn't say it actually looks particularly strong but it has survived allsorts from my daughter and hasn't even got a mark on it!! All the items in the set are easy to clean but they are dishwasher safe if you wish to wash them that way. I really like this tea set, my little girl has had many hours of enjoyment out of it and i think it has really enhanced her role play skills which can only be a good thing. I love that it comes with a tray as its great to watch her put all the things together on the tray to serve it up, something that she hasn't actually ever seen before so is ultimately her imagination that has enabled her to do this! I can't recommend this tea set enough, i think anything that helps develop your child in such a way is a really essential thing to have and at £12.99 thats a bargain for such a great item! Just Like Home Tea Set and Tray
by arleek My daughter, who is 3, has had this set for a couple of years now, and it has been a vital part of her toy collection, being played with, I won't say every single day, but in the least once a week since the day she received it. What you get in the set is a plastic tray, 4 cups, 4 saucers, 4 spoons, 1 lidded sugar bowl, 1 milk ... jug, and 1 tea pot. All are in bright colours, a mixture of yellow, red, and two shades of blue, and they are all made from sturdy durable plastic. I'd asked for a tea set for my daughter for her first Christmas, and this is the one she was given. At first I was a bit disappointed because I thought it looked quite basic, and I was sure you could get better ones, but anyway, this is what we got. I now feel a bit guilty about being disappointed because my daughter has really had (and still gets) a lot of enjoyment out of the set. The set is just the right size for little hands, it is a lot smaller and more lightweight than standard sized cups, plates etc but not as tiny as some miniature sets I have seen. The cups are big enough for kids to pretend to drink out of, even adults, and they are small enough for children to carry around on the tray when serving up meals! The fact that there are 4 cups, saucers, & spoons allows children to role play together, making cups of tea for each other, or even for a child to play alone serving up lunch for their toys or teddies. My daughter has often had little tea parties with her bath toys (of all things?!) and would sit them around the tray and feed them individually with the spoons, and then give them drinks and the like. What is also often played with in conjunction with this tea set is Play-doh, especially when other kids are involved. They seem to love making food creations out of the Play-doh and serving it up on the 4 saucers, and pretending to eat it with the spoons. This has been a favourite with her older cousins, as they have more imagination and skill to create such things, and it really captivates my daughter when they produce sausage, beans and chips made from Play-doh! The good thing about this set that it does come with its own tray, so the parts are less likely to get lost in the bottom of a toy box because all the parts of the set can stay on the tray. My daughter's just permanently sits on her table top, and she knows to return all items to the tray once she has finished. I won't pretend we haven't lost a spoon though!! The tray is also an advantage in that the child can easily transport numerous items from one person to another without dropping things. This tea set has been one of my daughter's favourite toys and it is something she has never seemed to tire of, so far. As well as role playing, she also uses the cups as little storage areas for some of her tiny toys. This is because the tea pot lid actually fits quite snugly on the cups, so she likes to hide things in here and make a 'present for mummy'. Which is very nice of her. I think sets like these are essential in a child's life to teach them about role-playing, playing with others, and just general imaginative play. No child's toy box should be without one. We've had it over two years now and it isn't yet showing any real signs of wear and tear. I have washed the full set a couple of times (in normal washing up water) and this has not deteriorated it in any way. And it does actually say you can put it through the dishwasher, or microwave (is that just taking the whole role playing thing a bit too far...??) All in all, it's a fantastic set, very basic but serves its purpose brilliantly. I suppose I should be thankful it's not pink... I can highly recommend this set for anyone who wants their child to have a good, decent tea set. It doesn't have too many items or any fancy extras, no unusual items that a child wouldn't know what to do with, and no really small parts to go missing (apart from the odd spoon). Dimensions are 27x37x10cm (I presume this is the tray) Available at Toys R Us for £11.99 The ridiculous thing is neither me or my husband drink tea, and we don't own a real teapot!!!
