Advantages: Well built , good tone
Disadvantages: none
This tambourine is one I recognize from a school music box somewhere. . It is a really good strong tambourine. .This tambourine is a wooden circular frame. It has 3 places 2 small cymbals each. These jingle and ring when the tambourine is shaken or tapped. There are 3 small circular holes too around the wooden band frame these make it easy for the child to hold the tambourine.
One side of the tambourine is covered with a fabric/skin pulled tight. This is for tapping for a drum effect.
The wooden tambourine is attractive, the sides coloured. There is a short blue coloured strip, a yellow one with pink dots, a green strip a pink strip with red vertical stripes, a green strip with white vertical stripes. This tambourine looks good the colours are subtle not garish.
This tambourine is a small one 145 cm in diameter.
This tambourine can be played by just shaking to make the small cymbals jingle quietly or can be played by tapping the drum skin wit a hand , you could use a small beater to beat a tune on the drum skin too. My students use all 3 methods sometimes all in one song.
The sound this tambourine makes is quite pleasant soft drumming and gentle jingling.
Yes the harder you drum and harder you shake the tambourine the more noise it makes, the tone of this instrument is good though, not raucous.
This tambourine is well made the skin stuck on tightly I think this tambourine will last many musical bashings.
You can buy this tambourine from http://www.woodentoysonline.co.uk/acatalog/info_BJ 194.html for £4.99 the http://www.bigjigs.co.uk/acatalog/Music.html website is solely for trade customers.
Music is known to have many benefits. Playing any musical instrument will enhance a Childs education. The tambourine is one of the easiest instruments to play to make a sound from. Just to hold and shake makes a jingle ideal for accompaniment to any Christmas performance at school. Some of my pupils find it hard to hold anything let alone a cymbal so for them I hold or put the symbol on a table and they use it like a drum getting the drumming noises plus a jingle or two when the vibrations make the cymbals move. The more able students can hold the tambourine and tap it as well as shake it.
To make a sound from this instrument gives my students satisfaction, pride, a sense of achievement
Summary: A small tamborine
