Considering many shops sell wooden jigsaws for £5-£10 each, I thought 3 for £10 from Argos was an absolute bargain. They are great quality and after being played with for over a year, they still show no signs of wear and tear. I would also say that these puzzles are multi-staged as the animal one is easier than the numbers one which is easier than the letters one. I think this is a bonus rather than all 3 being of the same difficulty, it allows progression all for one low price.
The animal jigsaw has the picture of the animal in the hole so the child can easily match the picture on the shape to the correct hole.
The numbers jigsaw holes have items to help match up the shapes, i.e the hole for shape number one has an apple, the hole for shape 2 has 2 lollipops etc.
The alphabet jigsaw helped my daughter to learn her letters very quickly and she could do the puzzle with ease within weeks. However she did struggle at first as the letter pieces are not cut out to the letter shape. If you turned them over, you would not tell with many of them what the letter is. For example, the 'I' and 'L' shapes are the same, they are both just rectangles. The 'N' and 'H' shapes are also the same. Once the child knows their letters this isn't a problem but when they are just learning which shapes will fit in which hole, it can be quite confusing. I'm sure it's cheaper for Chad Valley to only roughly cut each piece out rather than cut it to the exact shape of the letter but I think this would improve the design substantially.
Overall I would recommend these puzzles, they are fantastic value for money and good quality.
(Please note that on the photograph the alphabet puzzle is lower-case whereas the puzzle included in my pack is upper-case so designs may vary. The animal puzzle is also a different design. Mine were bought from Argos and currently their website for "Chad Valley Farm Animals Wooden Jigsaw Set" shows the designs I have not the ones on the picture above.)
A friend bought this set of 3 puzzles for my daughters 1st birthday. It is a lovely set of 3 wooden puzzles by Chad Valley from Argos. I have seen them since, they are priced at £9.99 and are on the offer 2 for £15.
The first puzzle is a wooden farm animal puzzle. The background is a printed field. The animals lift out of the holes and the picture is printed underneath, so this makes it easy for your child. This puzzle is really helpful with first teaching your child animal names, what noises they make etc.
The second puzzle is a number puzzle, it has numbers from one to nine. The numbers lift out of the holes and are all brightly coloured with different patterns on. The holes underneath are the same pattern as the number which makes it easier for your child to put back in the right slot.
The third puzzle is an alphabet puzzle. This looked like the hardest puzzle to complete out of the set, this actually didn't get opened and I passed it onto a friend. (We were having a massive declutter at the time, our house is overrun with small toys and pieces which go missing. There was nothing wrong with the puzzle, we just didnt need it!)
These puzzles are well made and made from sturdy wood with no rough edges. I have actually bought this set since for other childrens birthday parties.
Overall I would recommend this set to other people, good price for a well made set of puzzles which are educational and hardwearing.
For our reward chart my children I like the 2 for £15 at Argos as it is not bank breaking but there are a lot of good toys with reasonable quality to choose from and one of these I purchased for my Daughter was a set of 3 animal puzzles.
For My £9.99 or 2 for £15 I received 3 board puzzles made of a base of hard wood with shapes cut out and puzzle pieces for the child to sort in to the correct space. These are bright and colourful as to attack child's attention and on each puzzle peace there is a small wooden handle to make it easier for little hands to hold and move around easily.
Animal puzzle- Has 5 different pieces with bright coloured animals on them which little one has to the matching animal printed on the board. Can be great fun for both mummy and child.
Number puzzle - Has the numbers 1-9 and underneath each number is picture of animals in the multiple of the number so for 5 it has 5 fishes great to introduce younger children to numbers.
Alphabet puzzle- Has the letters A-Z as puzzle pieces and then when removed on the board each letter has an animal that begins with that letter like a cat where C should be great for letting children learn the letters that each animal starts with.
All the puzzles are great for hand eye co-ordination teaching children animal sounds, introducing numbers and letters but at the same time are perfect for little ones to have fun. They are very well made and can handle young children playing with them without even a scratch to them.
