On a recent trip to the Trafford centre I had decided I would spoil my son a little bit and thought a visit to The Disney Store would certainly fulfil this purpose!
We had picked up a couple of things and were in the queue to pay when I spotted a card game near to the tills. Of course these items are perfectly positioned to become an impulse buy but they caught my attention and so we decided to have a closer look. The cards were a Toy Story 3 matching pair's game and cost £3.00. I felt this was a reasonable price for a quick and easy game to play with my son and so I added it to the things I already had to buy!
The box is just a thin card box similar to those an ordinary deck of cards would be housed in and it stores the cards in neatly. I can imagine that without proper care the packaging could become damaged easily as it is thin card.
The box tells us that the game is a matching pair's game and that it is a Disney store exclusive so you will only be able to buy this product either in their stores or on their website. You can also see small pictures of some of the playing cards which are inside the box and are used for the game.
The game is suitable for 2-6 players from aged three upwards and I would say that this is an accurate assessment as I feel younger children might be a bit heavy handed with the cards and they would be likely to damage them as they are playing as the cards are only thin. Of course, you will know your child best and know how they would be likely to play with the cards.
The cards are probably around double the size of a normal playing card and are around a similar thickness too.
To play the game you need to firstly shuffle all the cards and then lay them out on the floor. There are thirty cards of a reasonable size so I feel that you are best playing this game on the floor where there is plenty of space but you could play it on a large table too.
Once all the cards are laid out you need to take it in turns to turn over two cards. If these two cards are a matching pair then you keep them and take another turn. The winner is the person with the most pairs of matching cards when all the cards have been turned over.
My son and I really enjoyed playing this game. It is a really simple concept but it encourages memory development whilst also being fun! The characters printed on the cards are bright and colourful. They feature the popular characters from the Toy Story films such as Buzz and Woody, as well as many of the new characters from the third instalment of the films so they are sure to be a hit with young fans of the films!
I think this type of game is perfect for passing time on rainy days in with your children-and we seem to be having lots of rainy days at the moment! The price of this game makes it great value, at £3.00, as I am sure we will get lots of enjoyment from it for the foreseeable future.
My only slight issue with this game is that the cards are quite thin and so if you child is quite heavy handed they might be easily bent or ripped.
In summary I feel this was a good impulse buy for a quick game to play with my son and I would recommend it-just make sure that you handle them with care!
