Funrise Big Step a tune A large step on piano designed for children (And adults), with preset tunes, sounds and rhythms. Powered by 4 AA batteries, it is available in toyshops around the country for around £20. Measuring around 5ftX2ft, this giant piano is a must in a musical household such as my own. Bright and cheerful, it is designed essentially for children over 3, but all of the kids in the house, and adults too enjoy playing with it. Not only will it help to develop a musical feel, it will encourage excellent motor skills, as it can be played by being stood on, or by patting the relevant keys. The keys are designed in such a way as to allow big or small feet to play it without causing any damage to the unit. It will take up a considerable amount of floor space, and it is important to ensure that the area is completely clear of sharp objects as if the circuit is interrupted the keyboard will malfunction. Do yoo remember Tom Hanks in the film Big? well this is a smaller version of the stand on piano that he played chopsticks on in the toyshop. Amazingly tuneful this keyboard covers a full octave (8 notes C-C) marked with Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La Ti, Do and has 6 preset songs, unfortunately half of them are Christmas songs, not much fun in the middle of June. LOL. The notes are different colours so they will encourage a child to follow easy music as denoted by colour charts. The tones are changeable, and although not too realistic it reproduces an electric guitar, mandolin, trumpet, piano, organ and violin. The rhythms (beats) again, are basic, as it offers a choice of 4,disco, rap, jazz and dance. I find it more than adequate in use, if not a little tinny. The tempo(speed) of the rhythms is fully adjustable and the very large pads ensure that a small child can independently modify them to their own specification. The keyboard is capable of recording the child mast
erpiece, which can be easily played back with the replay pad. The piece de resistance is the adjustable volume control, which can be set on many levels, allowing a little piece and quiet in a busy household. Battery wise it is very economical, and the 4 AA batteries that the keyboard arrived with last June, are still powering it. The battery compartment is a combined speaker unit and has nicely concealed the whereabouts of the batteries, away from prying fingers. The cover of the keyboard is vinyl so it is easy to wipe clean, as due to the scale (LOL) of it, renders it highly likely to have things dropped or spilled on it. I also really like the way that it can be folded up and either transported or stowed away for late use. Do I have any dislikes with this toy I hear you say? Nothing major really, it would be nice if the sharp/flat (black ) keys worked too!! When first switched on you have to press the reset key before play can commence. I do thoroughly recommend this toy, and if I saw another one I would make a point of buying it, one is just not enough.

This musical floor keyboard is wonderful for developing large motor skills in children. Suitable for children 5yrs and over, it improves muscle tone and encourages musical movement. It has four different rythms and six demo songs and eight piano keys and six different instrument styles. Colourful mat (71cm long - width 135cm) which the child steps on different pads to make different music. This aslo helps imagination as they make up their own tunes. It requires 4 x AA batteries, therefore no mains electrical power required which make this safer for the child to use. This has been great over the winter months, as it's something they can also do on their own or with friends.
