We brought this for my eldest daughter for christmas this year, it is very similar to the leap pad and just has a few additional features,
It is a plastic book shaped learning aid, ours is pink and purple but it is available in other colours.
I have previously reviewed the leap pad so wont repeat all the info here i will just tell you about the aditional features the leap pad plus writing has.
This has a stylus the same as the original leap pad but in addition to this there is a piece to screw into the stylus to turn it into a pencil to write with, you need to buy replacements of these although i havent had to yet so have no idea where from or how much and to be honest have never seen them in any toy stores.
There is an eraser come with it to rub out any writing so that the books can be used over again, this has a nice handy space in the plastic book holder to keep it safe.
It comes with two educational books one to teach maths and the other english. other than these two books there are only currently 3 other learning books available for this that have the need for the writing feature on the stylus, they are Tads great day at the letter factory aimed at teaching aged 4 to 6 year olds, wild word games and disney princess maths maizes and more aimed at teaching age 6 plus, i was hoping there would be more available but as it is a new learning aid i suppose this is to be expected.
The bonus to this for us is that it is compatible with the cartridges and books from the original leap pad so they can be used in both our machines.
It is a fantastic learning aid for ages 4 pluss, it teaches reading, letter sounds, vocabulary, maths, science, geography, writing letters and words, addition and subtraction.
It needs 4aa batteries which do last a long time
i bought this for my daughter,i actually got it from a charity shop for £10 which is an absolute bargain and it has 3 books with it.
as my daughter was learning her letters and numbers at the time and i thought this would be a big help for her ,and i am not dissapointed, she learns through fun and enjoys it even now.
it has a cartridge and a pen with it that enables her to choose the object on the book that interests her ,then it will tell her what the object is and what its doing,if its a person in a story it will say what the person is saying, and what they are doing, the story book my daughter loved is winnie the pooh, and the sound effects are really good.
it certainly helped my daughter with her learning and even now provides her with reading entertainment, and you can buy other book inserts with different stories as your child grows as they come in different age groups, therefor can develop each stage of learning.
its a good buy from pre school age and upwards
Put a book on the LeapPad player and pop in the cartridge. Stories suddenly come to life with the light tap of the Magic Pen. Touch a word and sound out each letter. Then spell it and define it. Silly songs serenade. Characters charm everyone with their hilarious sense of humor. The award-winning LeapPad Learning System teaches fundamental reading skills in a way that keeps your child coming back again and again. The Magic Pen helps young readers practice critical pre-writing skills. The games will make them gleeful and the activities will keep them busy as bees.
