Advantages: Alphabet song, letters, colours

Disadvantages: None

One of my boasts as a mum is that my three year old girl can sing the alphabet letter for letter and she has been able to do this for quite a few months now. I'd like to think it was because I have been singing this song to her since she was born but I also think the Leapfrog Lettersaurus has helped with this too.

Lettersaurus is a cute looking purple and green dinosaur. He has a cute friendly face and looks fun and inviting to play with. Along the length of his tail where his spikes are as a dinosaur you will find letter buttons. On the front side of the lettersuarus there is a to m and then on his back side there is n to z. These letters are written in lower case letters but are well written and easy to distinguish. Each letter in on a button that you press and you will hear different things according to what program you are on when you press the button.

I will start with his head though. On the head is a little spiky bit that is blue but when you press it it lights up red and then the dinosaur will sing the alphabet song, a, b,c and so until until now I know my abc's, next time won't you sing with me. You can press this button again and again to hear the song over and over again which we do numerous times in our house but I believe its repetition that helps us learn and this has most definitely worked with my little girl.

He then says, "Push a letter button," and for those of you that have other Leapfrog products you will recognise the voice and the phrasing used in this dinosaur as the same as other toys. For example when it says pick a letter button it sounds exactly the same as it does on the Leapfrog letter pad.

There is a little butterfly on the front of the lettersaurus and this enables you to switch to three different functions. One allows you to learn all about colours. All the letter buttons are featured on different coloured buttons. There are red, yellow, green and blue buttons and when you press a letter it will speak the name of the colour it is featured on. If you stop for a minute or two the lettersuarus will go roar and tell you to push a letter button again.

There is also an ABC funtion and obviously when you push a letter button it says this letter and also a word that starts with that letter. FOr example just to tell you about a few, F will say fingers, L says Lamb and makes a baa noise, S says sailing boat and Z says Zoo and features some animal noises.

The last function is a music button and when you push a letter button the lettersauraus lights up on top of his head as well as playing a well known nursery rhyme. There is no singing put you can tell what the song is straight away and its fun for us to guess and then sing along. Songs included are Row your boat, London bridge is falling down and Mary had a little lamb.

You can personalise this lettersaurus too which I know if something kids love as they love to hear their toys say their name. You can add the first letter of your child's name and they then hear a personalised response when they press that letter e.g "L! That's the first letter of your name!"

In my opinion this is a great fun way to learn your letters.
