Advantages: Good price, fits into handbag nicely, catchy tune

Disadvantages: Not a toy that captures attention for a long period

I am happy for my 16 month old daughter to play with any kind of toy, but she does naturally gravitate towards girlier toys. That said, when playing with her male cousin, she does find his cars and trains quite entertaining, as I suppose they are something new to her. So, a month or so ago, when I was looking for little toys to keep in my handbag that I could pull out for my daughter when out and about, my mother, who knew I was looking for small toys, bought my daughter this little train, which cost her a fiver in Boots, although I think the price varies between £4 and £7 online. She thought it would be something different for her as she doesn't own any trains in her toy collection

Leapfrog is a brand that my daughter has a few toys from now, so I was familiar with the brand and its attention to the educational element of playing. This LeapFrog Musical Movers Counting Choo Choo train, is definitely small enough to pop into your handbag or changing bag when out and about, and has a recommended age range of 9 months plus, which I think is quite fair. My daughter is obviously older, but it means she is able to interact much more with it.

Children are able to push this train around themselves, which my daughter quite likes to do, but to hear the music and voices, you need to push down the little green frog that drives the train. The toy train itself is very bright and colourful and should therefore appeal to young children.

This toy prides itself on being educational in that is teaches children the numbers 1 to 10 through a catchy song that can be heard when you press the frog. In fact the song in reality is quite catchy with the phrase 1,2,3,4,5 all aboard the counting train, 6.7.8.9,10 tickets please! There are also a couple of other sounds that are meant to resemble train noises, and also the little frog says 'Let's drive my choo choo train'.

On the side of the carriage there are two volume settings. In a noisy café I would usually opt for the higher volume, but in the house, the lower volume setting is perfectly audible.

When my daughter first received this little train she was quite interested and played with it for a while. I popped it in my handbag and brought it out the next time we were out and about, and although she did play with it again, it got quickly pushed a side in favour of other toys or books that were in my bag. In fact, that has been the way with this toy. Yes, she will play with this toy for a little while, she likes to push it around and hear the tune, but I wouldn't say it is a favourite, or one that is played with a lot, and if she had a choice, she would still gravitate towards her more girly toys, but for what my mum paid for the toy, I think it is a good price, just more suited to little boys maybe.

Summary: A good toy but not a favourite
