Tiana's new dream. This year for Christmas we bought my daughter a Leapfrog Tag reading system and a couple of Disney Princess books. I was not familiar with The Princess and the Frog story before as it's a fairly new Disney creation but I'm glad we got this one as its a really nice story. If you are unfamiliar with the Tag reading system then it is basically best described as a combination of a talking "pen" and special Tag books books that you load onto it and it helps young kids learn to read books and also enjoy books by themselves. Leapfrog say that, "The Tag system includes activities that help children think about story events, characters and themes in order to build reading comprehension skills. Tag focuses on core phonics, word recognition and vocabulary skills based on teaching methods designed to help a child learn to read. It's all wrapped up in fun, engaging stories and high-interest topics to enthrall your child. That's the magic of Tag - it makes learning fun! Disney seemed to have changed a bit in the way they portray their princesses. No longer are they just beautiful girls waiting for a prince to find them, they are tougher and like to do things for themselves. For example in this book Tiana has a dream that one day she would own her own restaurant and she knew the only way to make her dream come true was through hard work. What a great thing to teach our little girls, that they are in charge of their destiny and that there is another path to success that marrying a footballer and becoming a WAG or a popstar!! This book is set in New Orleans and what I really like about the voice that narrates this book is that it has a New Orleans accent so they are making the book sound very authentic and setting the scene very well in my opinion. Tiana meets a frog called Prince Naveen but unfortunately after kissing him, thinking she was going to turn into a princess, she herself turns into a frog and together Tiana and Naveen go on an adventure. Of course, this being Disney they all lived happily ever after but I think its a nice inspiring story to read and one my little girl really likes looking at. Like all Tag reader books there are various ways in which you can utilise this book. You can use the pen to read the whole story for you by just pressing it onto the symbol on the first page that says, "read the story." My little girl is only three so at the moment this is the way she likes to read the books as it reads them to her but its great that she can work the pen by herself and it gives her the ability to read a book all by herself and get used to the words and the pictures. You can also just have the reader read a page at a time which is good as there are different things to do on each page like games and hear different sounds. In this book there are various games to play. One of them is where you have to answer yes or no and there is either a smiley face icon for yes and so you press the reader onto this picture or there is a sad face icon to indicate the answer no. This is a good game for understanding questions and their answers. A good addition to the Tag family!
