* ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ Introduction ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * My youngest was 2 on 14th November, so got the leapfrog tag junior and a bundle of books for his birthday. He loves Elmo, and 1 of his favourite dvds is Elmo in grouchland because my son is also obsessed with his blanket. Having purchased the leapfrog tag junior for his 2nd birthday i wanted to get a variety of books. This has other characters apart from his favourite so seemed ideal. * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ Cost And Availability ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * The book normally retails at around £9.99 at most places such as Argos, Boots, Toys R Us etc but Amazon often drop the price by 1/3 so I got it for £6.66. The book comes packaged in a small bit of cardboard so its very easy to get into. (The tag junior needs to be purchased separately, normally retailing around £25, but does sometimes drop to half price in argos, amazon and elc) * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ The Book ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * It is just under 7x5 inches and is board book style with a laminated feel, 10 pages full of detail (20 sides) You will require internet connection for this book to work, as you have to download the software onto the tag junior for each book. The books work by placing the tag junior onto different pictures inside the book where the tag junior will ask you questions about the book. I was worried it would be like the biff and chip books with single words meaning he would grow out of it before age 4 but it has full sentences. The tag junior book range is from 1-4years. This book isnt a story, each page has a character and an emotion (i.e, pic of elmos sad face, with the words 'Sad' 'Face') including many characters your child will recognise from the programme. It clearly states 'tag junior' in the top right hand corner so you can be sure to buy the correct books to work with the tag junior. The front is mainly blue with 3 characters from seasame street. It is set to aid with emotions. * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ Using The Book ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * Pressing the tag junior anywhere on the front of the book to hear a tune. As an example of what sort of the things the jag junior and book can do, on the 1st page is Zoe, Simply place the tag junior on zoes face to hear 'Zoe is smiling because she is feeling happy' Putting the tag junior somewhere else, for example Zoes lollypop, you will hear elmo say 'Zoe has a lollypop'. When you hear a bleeping noise it will set you an activity, such as : *Find the lollypop etc *Clap your hands *Touch the bee *Touch the cone *What is the prize that makes rover very proud This book concentrates on faces for the emotions so picture wise there isnt much to look at on each page, but the activites start very simple so would suit the lower end of the age reccomendation for this. There are 25 activities and over 150 phases from the characters. * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ What Does Oscar Think? ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * Oscar is behind on his speech and is more 'babyish' than other normal 2 year olds so with this book being suitable from 1 years plus instead of the 2 years plus like most of the other tag junior books I felt it would be a good choice as when buying the set I wasn't sure if he would take to it or not. Oscar loves this book and its become one of his favourites. The pages only contain pictures of the characters so there isn't too much going on but it means Oscar can concentrate on that 1 page, with other books there is lots going on and he's eager to move the tag junior around the page to see what it can pick up, but with this book I find he does concentrate more. Oscar has so far completed a few of the activities, we did have to go through the book a few times first. * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ Our Thoughts? ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * While Oscar does like this book, I personally find it a little basic, When you compare it to Toy Story or Jake Pirate, they are complete stories so will hold the attention for longer as the tag junior has a story to read where as this book each page only has 2 words, an emotion then the word face. I try to read to my boys every night before bed but sometimes Oscar wont have it and lies to 'read' his own books and the tag junior books with stories in them are great for that, sometimes he doesn't want to complete activities and just likes to have the book read to him, so this book isn't great for that as its over in less than a minute. Oscar has only completed a few of the activities so far but we found these some of the easiest ones when compared to activities from some of the other Tag Junior books. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this book still contains 25 activities, because there are less pictures and less words I thought there would be less to do with this book, but it has the same amount of activities that the longer/more detailed books have.
