My youngest was 2 last thursday, so got the leapfrog tag junior and a bundle of books for his birthday. He is toy story mad and we currently own all of the talking toys along with plush teddys, small figures and imaginext playsets so i knew this would be a hit. My son is quite delayed with his speech but loves books and loves to watch his brother with his leapfrog pen, I saw this advertised and thought it may help bring his speech along if the tag junior talks to him and asks questions about each book, I thought it may prompt him to talk, hes only had it since the 14th November so i cannot say about the speech just yet but he seems very excited when using it and says a lot of 'ohhhs and awwwws'.
The Toy Story book normally retails at around £9.99 at most places but amazon often drop the price by 1/3 so I got it for £6.66. The book comes packaged in a small bit of cardboard so its very easy to get into. It is just under 7x5 inches and is board book style with a laminated feel, 11 pages full of detail (19 sides)
You will require internet connection for this book to work, as you have to download the software onto the tag junior for each book. The books works by placing the tag junior (purchased separately, normally retailing around £25, but does sometimes drop to half price in argos, amazon and elc) onto different pictures inside the book where the tag junior will ask you questions about the book. The tag junior book range is from 1-4years. I was worried it would be like the biff and chip books with single words meaning he would grow out of it befoee age 4 but it has full sentences.
This book isnt a story, each page has a character and a sentence about each character and is full of pictures from toy story 3 including many new characters your child will recognise from the film. It clearly states 'tag junior' in the top right hand corner so you can be sure to buy the correct books to work with the tag junior. The front is mainly blue and has beautiful illustrations of woody, buzz, jessie and 3 aliens. It is set to aid with language sounds, position and action words (play, save, run, etc)
Pressing the tag junior anywhere on the front of the book to hear a tune. As an example of what sort of the things the jag junior and book can do, on the 1st page is Bonnie, with the sentence 'Hi! I'm Bonnie. Let's play! My toys are my friends and we play all day, imagining adventures far, far away'. Simply place the tag junior on that sentence to hear it being read to you. Place the tag junior onto bonnies face to hear her say 'hi im bonnie, these are my toys'. Putting the tag junior somewhere else, for example her skirt, you will hear a bleeping noise where the tag junior will then set you a challenge and ask you to pick a character to start the adventure, you then select a character by putting the tag junior on him/her and you will hear a saying from that particular.
The book is a massive hit in our house and has become a firm favourite to use with the tag junior, lots of bright pictures and fun activities to do. My son received around 5 single books, 2 book sets and flash cards to use with the tag junior and this book is normally the 1st one he goes to. He only recently received it so struggles with the activities but still loves 'reading' it, will have a few more years use out of it where my little boy will get the hang of the activities set.
Personally i feel its one of the better books, its has full sentences with lots of pictures so makes its one of the interesting books. The book includes pictures of a variety of characters so your little one is bound to be excited reading this book.
Ok, so i have two children, my daughter has just turned 5, my son is two. My eldest has the leapfrog tag so i thought my son would like the junior version. He is obsessed with Toy Story, Woody mainly, goes everywhere with him. So i got this book to give to him along with the tag junior. All the other books (Even things he is not usually into at all) keep him entertained for quite a while, he enjoys things i seriously would have thought he would at all. Now i am not critisizing the tag (the usual one or junior) they are worth every penny and some of my best buys... BUT this book in paticular was a bit of a let down. Seems like it was just thrown together without too much thought. EVen my son, a very loyal fan of Woody hasnt picked this book up again since day 2!
