Great for all those budding teachers!

I guess I am very lucky to be able to say that ever since my now six year old daughter first set foot in school she has absolutely loved being there. So much so, that she always has a great desire to come home and teach her younger sister everything she has learned. Before her birthday, she was improvising her own schools, but when I spotted this Pretend and Play School set on the yellowmoon.org website it seemed like an ideal present for her. Indeed it was and ever since her birthday we have regularly heard the school bell ringing out in our house!

The set comes in a big box but inside that is a rather nice tri-fold board that opens out and becomes your school area. It even has a school clock to place on the top. This can fold away very well though and will contain all the school equipment when not in use. It has a Velcro flap to keep everything secure and also a carrying handle which means that your little 'teacher' can easily transport her school wherever she likes!

The school comes with lots of different things that you would find in a school. There is a bell to call the pupils to lessons. My daughter loves this and we often hear this ringing and her calling her younger sister to get a move on! There is a dry erase board for writing on along with a double sided map and a double sided calendar. These all fix onto the board so that they can be written on and pointed to. There is even a big pointer with a finger on the end in order to do this. There are crayons for writing on the boards and also an eraser so that you can use it over and over again. There are also lots of consumables such as pupil scorecards, homework records, spelling and maths worksheets, awards and most important of all - well done stickers! These are very useful if you are going to be a great head teacher! There are lots of different pockets on the board that means that all of these can be tidied away when not in use.

This set does seem to be very well thought out and everything seems to be of a good quality. Both my daughters love playing with this set and so far it has provided hours of enjoyment. I often come across them playing with a whole line of teddies lined up to learn too. Most children love playing schools, and although I am sure that my daughter has the imagination to collect together everything she needs, this just makes it a bit more special - and it's easy to keep it all together.

I do just have one little gripe about this set though and that is because I think it slightly misrepresents what it contains. On the box, it claims that there are 149 pieces which technically there are. However, considering that the scorecard sheets, certificate pad and worksheet pads are not counted as one object but as each sheet being a different piece I think that is misleading. For example there is one pad of spelling and maths worksheets containing twenty sheets but this seems to be counted as twenty pieces. Also all the worksheets are exactly the same so there is no variation. Overall that is only a small complaint but I do think that it implies that there is more in the set than there actually is!

We bought the set from yellow moon and it cost £29.99. However yellow moon often send discount codes so I did get 10% off that price and they made a 5% contribution to my daughter's school. I think this represents reasonable value but it would definitely not be worth paying any more for. It is a lot of fun for my daughter to play with though and they would definitely recommend it and so will I!

My daughter's school may well be breaking up next week but I have a sneaky suspicion that she will be going to school all summer!
