“ Brand: Little Tikes / Type: Music „
When I am at work my daughters are looked after by their Grandfather who has a full sized keyboard, we have found that my youngest daughter seems to love music and he will leave it switched on throughout the day so that she can play with it even though she can literally just reach the keys on her tiptoes. My Mam decided it would be a good idea to buy her her own keyboard for Christmas.
My Mam bought this keyboard from Asda although you can buy it from Amazon and Argos too, the keyboard sells for £19.99 and is meant for children aged 24 months to 6 years, although my daughter is only 15 months old she can play with this no problem.
The toy came complete in a cardboard box open at the front to allow you to have a little play before buying the toy, the box has the Little Tikes logo on it, a little mark saying that it has been safety tested and some pictures showing a little girl enjoying playing with the keyboard. The keyboard was secured into the box with plastic covered wires twisted around themselves but was pretty easy to get out which I always think is good as you don't want to have problems getting a toy from a box when your child is dying to get their hands on it.
The keyboard is made of hard plastic and has all curved edges making it more attractive to look at and ergonomically correct. The main part of the keyboard is blue in colour but has extra bits of red and yellow and has three circles at the top of it, one circle is the on/off control and the knob can be twisted for 2 different volume levels, the middles circle has a frosted cover over a number of little lights which flash when the keyboard is playing and finally the third circle is the speaker so you can hear what is being played. The keyboard has 8 white keys and 4 black keys so completes a full octave although the black keys don't actually play and then there are 6 different coloured circular buttons 5 of which plays a different tunes and the other one stops the music playing.
The sound of the keyboard is very clear even when the volume is turned up to it's maximum, the keys play the correct notes like a proper keyboard but only hold a note for about 2 seconds and the keys are large enough for little fingers to hit accurately. the six different buttons that play a song cause the lights to flash in a different order for each song, the sings aren't songs that your little one is likely to recognise and there are only two that i know "feeling hot hot hot" and "A B C" by the Jackson Five.
My daughter is thrilled with her keyboard, she plays with this easily and can turn the on/off knob and press the buttons no problem, I cannot understand why this toy is for children aged 24 months plus. The songs that the buttons play would probably have been better if they were songs that a child would know considering it is a childs toy but my daughter just seems to like the flashing lights and sits and bounces her head to dance to the music. The notes of the keyboard don't hold very long and the song buttons give about a 20 second play of the tune. My daughter loves this keyboard and I am happy that even though she is not in the age range it is suitable for her. The keyboard is durable and strong so I have no concerns that she would break it now just to see if we can actually teach her how to play it properly.
