For manual playing press and hold the round button for a few seconds until you hear a beep, then the child holds the guitar again in playing position and holds one of the chord buttons down to hear the note then each time they strum a infra red beam detects the movement plays the note again, It really is clever as looks like they really are playing it as when they strum the invisible strings the notes play.

The only kind of music that my son seems to like is rock and roll, think he likes it due to liking noise lol. A friend got this Tomy guitar rock star toy for him for his birthday. It is like an air guitar as is only the top tuning part of a guitar. The picture shows what I mean above, The picture shows a red one and my son has a blue one and they also come in black. 2 AAA batteries are needed for it which don't come with it. To work it you can have the manual option or automatic option.
