“ Manufacturer: Vtech „
Purchased for my 10month old daughter last Christmas this toy initially did not get much attention and was used more for a way of pulling herself up. However as time has gone on and she has gotten a little older she is now getting more use out of some of the different activities that it offers.
There are five sides on the cube each offering different sensory activities. My daughter loves playing with the alphabet bricks and making towers on top. She also shows interest in the piano and enjoys hearing the animal noises. The activity cube also comes with alphabet bricks and although my daughter is still too young I can see that in time it will help her to learn her letter sounds.
I did research other activity cubes however was persuaded by this one because of the Vtech brand, believing that Vtech is a reputable company who have high quality products and i wasn't disappointed. This activity cube is expensive however it can grow with my daughter and therefore will continue to provide entertainment for another few years yet.
I have to say that when it comes to toys in our house, the ones that last are VTech hands down, and this one is no different. It simply comes out of the box with an alphabet of blocks and the twirly blocks that pops on top.
The activities on the cube;
Top - the alphabet blocks are a good size for a toddler, if yours is a biter like mine there's no chance of anything coming off or swallowing anything. The blocks can be stacked on top of the cube or even on top of each other. My 13 month old son loves to stack them and pull them apart or knock them down. There is also a static loop with textures balls which he loves to spin!
Side 1 - The side that looks like a smiley face has two eyes, nose and mouth in which the bricks can be placed for storage, this is actually a bit more fun than it sounds! And has taught my son the joys of clearing up anything in the room that will fit inside so tidy (ish) room + happy baby = happy mummy!
Side 2 - This side has a telephone that clips in and out, this doesn't make noise but the cube will randomly ring the phone and my son has just started to answer it. There is a key pad with large numbers, each also featuring an animal, depending what setting it is on it will say the number, ring and say eg 'hello monkey'. Just above this is a slot for the alphabet blocks to be inserted, once in the cube will say the letter and what sound it makes, singing with music. Plus its so simple for toddlers to do as they're a good size. Music also plays here. Just to the left of that is the on switch, volume control and just above are some music keys with shapes. These are great for kids; as the cube is playing music if these are hit it will continue to play the tune but at the pace the keys are hit for example Twinkle twinkle.
Side 3 - On this side the cube inverts and there are four thick poles which stick out, featuring a triangle, circle, square and star, with the intention of the blocks falling down and hitting them, reminds me of a child friendly pinball game!
Side 4 - Probably the most interesting side in terms of colours and starter activities, this side features little toddler puzzles; butterfly whose wing moves from one side to another, a mirror, three textured circles that can be spin, each spinning the other two, a block which moves from one side to the other and a red bird and yellow flower which you can push from side to side. This was the side my son would spend about 20 minutes playing with before he'd go near another toy!
My little boy was bought this at 8 months and is still one he goes to at least once a day to play with. Plus, he's always pulling himself up on it and I believe its contributed to his confidence standing.
Overall I'd say this is a great toddler toy as well as being quite educational with loads to look at and do. I'm not sure how long he'll be using it but its still going strong 5 months later and hopefully a lot longer. He favours different sides at different times so has got a lot of play out of it already and there's so much to do from his perspective. By no means will it keep him entertained all day but I'll take 20 minutes here and there so I can get bits done! Definitely on the good buy/keep for the next list.
