Clippasafe Cupboard Locks
by sympatic
These can be a cheap and effective way to child proof the cupboards and draws in your home to make them difficult to open for ypung children however they do have their limiotations. For us we have found that one of the important things to remember is that they are there, my other half has broken a couple when he used too much force on a ... draw and the clip bent and was no longer effective, this has proven to be a very short term problem as it only happened twice but it also suggests that these clips will have a limited shelf life as your child develops strength.
Buying these I mainly wanted to secure a couple of cupboards that contain cleaning products and the draws that have matches or cutlery in them, also up in the bathroom there was a cupboard that needed securing. They are cheap to buy, a pack of six cost me £1.99 on Amazon. They are simple to attach to the cupboard, the hook part is screwed into the door and the lock goes into the frame, they are eaxy to screw in although the screws that are included are quite cheap so you have to be careful not to damage the screw head. When in place the cupbaord door will open a little bit but no further when the lock clicks in, to open you just press the hook in to release it from the lock and the door opens easily.
These are certainly an effective way of stopping young children from getting into cupboards however as I said before they do have their limitations and are only going to be effective until the point where your child is able to suss out how to get past them, by then hopefully they will be old enough to really understand the dangers of cleaning products, medical stuff is not such a problem for me as that is stored high up out of reach of even me without a chair to stand on.
There is an inconvenience factor with these wen you forget so there is an adjustment time to get used to them being there but they are easy to attach and offer a cheap solution to a potential problem. Read the complete review |

Mothercare Socket Covers
by Seven17
I bought a large quantity of these over a year ago to prevent fingers getting into plug sockets. The problem is, i struggle with them myself, and even I cant get them out. I don't have nails so have to get sharp objects like a screwdriver, a knife or anything like that behind them to carefully lift them out of the mains ... socket.
They are made from a very thick plastic and there is no compromise where robustness or rigidity is concerned. They do not wiggle about once in the socket and they are quite smooth so toddlers wont be cutting themselves or injuring themselves on them either.
These are relatively strong and can withstand knocks or dings with the hoover from time to time. i have yet to break one. Even the prongs at the end that fit into the sockets are quite sturdy and hard to snap. They slide right to the back of the sockets providing a good, and safe security over the top of the socket holes.
These come with little bumps and gaps on them, and i guess you can use tools or special removal items for these but i didn't bother because whilst they are hard for me to get off, i don't see the point in spending extra money. i can't see any other purpose for these holes but they don't reveal any of the socket holes so theres no way children can get into them. Very sturdy, very safe and well thought out.
These are somewhat scratch resistant and it's hard to get the paint to wear off. I often find that light surface marks appear when they are scraped but can only be seen in the sunlight. Like i said when you smack them with the corner of a hoover they don't shatter to pieces or get dents in them. Watching kids try and pick them off and fail is quite a big relief and also frustrating... for them.
They are painted white and do not come in any other colour so you get what you're given. Most plugs are white but i have seen some special design ones which these will not look good on. You should also watch out if you have rounded edge sockets at the top and sides as these might not fit well.
Overall though these are excellent little things, cheap enough to buy and frustrating for children and myself to get off. That can be a good thing though, parents, you just need something sharp to leaver them out. Read the complete review |

Mothercare Socket Covers
by kat1234
As I mentioned in my previous review, we purchased a home safety starter set from Mothercare for £12.99 when my son first became mobile. Within this set there were 6 plastic socket covers, as pictured above. These can be placed into any three pin electrical socket that is exposed and could be attractive to inquisitive babies who just ... love to stick there fingers in things!
The socket covers themselves are really very basic - but functional, serving their purpose completely. They are made of a very lightweight plastic so feel like they are not very robust, but in my experience, they haven't bent or snapped. They slot very easily into the socket, although I do have difficulty removing them - having to get my nails behind them to get a good grip. Whilst this is a minor annoyance to me, it is also reassuring that my son will not, even when he is more capable of understanding and his strength and co-ordination improves, be able to remove them. They sit very flushly in the sockets and, as we tend to use these in sockets that we don't really use (the others are beyind his reach or have plugs in) they stay in place most of the time. Being white. the colour of the sockets, they are not obvious or an eye sore either.
We needed more than the 6 provided in the pack (as I would suspect most households would) and purchased a packet of 12 for £6.99. I have read reviews that say we do not need socket covers to make the home safe and they could actually be more dangerous, but I personally like the reassurance that, even if my son can't get his fingers in there, his toys won't go in there either. Overall, if you are looking to buy socket covers, I would recommend these ones to you. Read the complete review |
