Tomy SRV400 Digital Baby Monitor
by sp055
Why did I buy this product?
I bought this baby monitor because I had previously borrowed a video monitor from a friend, but when she had her second baby I had to return it to her. As I had got used to being able to see my baby at night, as well as hear her, I decided that I wanted to buy a video monitor.
First ... experiences.....
When this product first arrived there was a high pitch electrical sound from the camera. My husband is a fire-fighter and very concious of potential fire risks, so we sent it back. We had bought it from Mothercare; once we explained that we couldn't post the old one back before we received a new one they sent us a new one immediately, which was great.
Second experiences....
The second one which we received didn't make any noise and I was extremely happy with the quality of the monitor. The picture is clear in the furthest parts of the house, which you would expect from the 250m range that the camera has. It is worth noting, however, that the range which is provided on the packaging when you buy a monitor refers to how far it will work in an open space; therefore with thick stone walls the range on the monitor is greatly reduced.
One of the things which I had hated about the previous monitor which I had was the constant hissing noise and the light which the screen produced in our bedroom at night; this monitor has a sound activation mode, so it just appears to be off, but will spark into life if your baby cries. The benefits of this are amazing, it creates a much nicer sleeping environment for yourselves if you do not have to listen to an electrical hiss all night, and as any new parent knows it doesn't take a lot to wake us up!
The screen on the camera is fine, at 2.4 inches. I can see what our girl is up to, but because the screen is not massive, it is easy to cart about in your back pocket, if you so desire. As you would expect, the camera is infra-red so that you can see what your baby is up to in the dark.
How could this camera be better?
The camera which I have got doesn't have a zoom, but I have just checked on line and there is now a monitor available with this option which is selling for only £73.00 from a place called Baby Monitors Direct. I have never shopped with this company, so I am unaware of their reputation, however, if this is genuine, I think it's a bit of a bargain. I bought my monitor last September and paid £64.00 (without the zoom) at that time the cheapest we found the monitor elsewhere was £100.
Another benefit would be a monitor with pan and tilt, this would be helpful if your child was moving about their cot and you wanted to see where they had gone. Read the complete review |

Tomy Winnie the Pooh Sweet Dreams Lightshow
by bellabear
Having had a 'night show' similar to this one when I was a baby, I wished my daughter to have the same soothing sound and show when she was drifting off to sleep.
After quickly learning, that sleeping triggers were not a good idea (like rocking/patting them to sleep) as they couldn't recreate this if they woke up in the middle of ... the night, therefore needing mummy or daddy to do it, we didn't use this every night as we didn't want our daughter to 'need' it in the middle of the night.
However, now our daughter is 8 months old, she has started to learn to switch it on by herself. She also enjoys the images when they are projected onto her ceiling. She also seems to enjoy the soothing music that is played at the same time. You can also just play the images on the 'globe' on the side if you would prefer.
If you do decide to use the projector, please be careful when you position this as it's really not that effective if it's pointing at a corner in the ceiling! Read the complete review |

Tomy Digital TD300
by karlsm93
One important element of baby kit for us was a baby monitor, however when I started to look around at the monitors on the market, I couldn't quite believe all of the terrible reviews on many from well respected brands. It was my sister that recommended the Tomy monitors as she had an older version for her own children and thought they ... were the best that she had found, having gone through a few duff monitors beforehand.
I did a bit of research in Tomy monitors and decided upon this Tomy Digital TD300 monitor which costs around the £50 and upwards mark, although I got them on offer at TEsco direct at the time I was looking.
Tomy claims this product offers a 100% crystal clear digital monitor that can pick up sounds within a 350 metre range. It has DECT technology which is what gives you the clear sound without interference. The other main features of this product are the nightlight on the base unit giving a soft green glow in the baby's room, a temperature checker on the monitor to ensure baby's room not too hot or cold and a talk back button which allows you to talk to your baby when not in the room if you need to offer comfort. In our case this was used for mummy and daddy to communicate when one of us is trying to settle the baby!! Useful nonetheless.
The monitor also comes with a belt clip so you can be wearing it hands free which my husband likes to do, and clip it onto his trousers when he is in charge! I like to have it beside me so I can see any movement via the lights, which brings me onto the sound/light feature which I particularly like. You can decide how much sound you want to hear in terms of your baby. You can turn the setting up to maximum to mute, where you will only hear louder noises. I have to say that I have never had it on this setting, in fact I have it always at full reception so much so, that I can even hear the clock ticking in my baby's room.
There are a few downsides however such as the battery life. The monitor is able to be charged using the mains but I find that the battery onto lasts about a week before needing to be charged again, a full 6 hour charging. There is a warning that the battery is about to go, so you can charge it before it goes completely dead.
The other downside is that sometimes if you have the monitor in your hand or hooked onto you and you go too close to the base unit, there can be a lot of feedback which unfortunately has woke my daughter when I have went to check on her and forgot to turn off the monitor.
Despite these couple of negative points, this is a very good monitor allowing a parent to listen very closely to a baby's every movement. It also allows you to check the temperature and decide just how much noise you want to hear. All in all, I ma very pleased with these monitors and think they are worth the money.
