Advantages: Peace of mind, easy to use, doubles as a night light, rechargeable handset

Disadvantages: None that I have come across

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I started to panic about cot-death and had several sleepless nights worrying about it. Through research I found this monitor and I would say that it the most important piece of equipment I have ever purchased. If I could recommend any baby product to any parent it would be this monitor.

The monitor is very easy to set up and there are various settings to personalise it. When the movement sensor is connected there is a pendulum on the display of the parent unit which goes back and forth which indicates movement is being detected. If no movement is detected, the pendulum stops and an alarm sounds. There is also a ticking noise which accompanies the pendulum but I would recommend turning it off as it doesn't tick regularly and kept me awake at night.

The parent unit includes a rechargeable battery which charges up by putting it in the cradle provided. I set this up by my bed so it charged through the night ready for the next day. The unit that goes in the child's room is mains powered but you can put disposable batteries in it so that if there is a power cut it will still work.

The child's unit is also a nightlight which I found fantastic as we only have one wall socket in the room. It also meant I could see to check on my daughter without putting the main light on and disturbing her.

When my daughter was born she slept in a moses basket so I fed the cable through the bottom of the wicker and set up the motion sensor under the mattress. When she began sleeping in a cot I didn't think it would pick up her breathing movements when she was lying still as the mattress was so much thicker than the one in the moses basket. The sensor picked her breathing movements up no problem. I put it in the middle of the cot and even as she got older and moved about the cot we never once had a false alarm. 2 years later when our daughter moved into a bed I disconnected the sensor pad but still use the monitor so I can hear her if she needs us while we are downstairs rather than her having to get out of bed to shout us.

I know that this product cannot prevent cot death. However, it gave me great reassurance that should anything awful happen, the alarm would go off and I would at least have a chance to attempt first aid and ring an ambulance

I really do recommend this product

Summary: Peace of mind is worth every penny
