Angelcare AC401 Baby Movement and Sound Monitor
Advantages: give you reassurance
Disadvantages: can go off by mistake but very, very rarely
When my granddaughter was born she was premature and although the hospital said she was fine my daughter was very on edge about her and would constantly check her. We bought her this angel movement sensor and because it was such a big reassurance we bought one for here too.
We have had this for 4 years and it is still going strong.
It is a baby monitor and a sensor mat too so that if your baby is being very quiet and not making sounds through the monitor you will know they are okay because the sensor mat is on and it would alarm if they stopped breathing.
The mat is placed underneath their mattress and detects even the most faint movement. If your baby holds it's breath for more than 15 seconds then it will set an alarm off which is very loud and quite startling! This means that you don't have to keep checking on your baby if they have a longer sleep than normal, you will be reassured that the monitor is checking your baby for you.
It also has a temperature alarm which will go off if the room drops below a certain temperature.
The only problem with this is that sometimes it can go off if your baby moves away from the sensor mat. This happened about twice when they were in cots and they could roll a bit and sometimes they would be too far from the mat and the alarm would go off. This was always a bit of a shock and you'd go rushing in and luckily everything was fine.
I think they are a very good idea, it's amazing how sensitive they are and how they work. We use this with our youngest grandchild but it has been used with them all for the past 4 years and still works really well. It gives peace of mind. It cost £60 at the time and I think it was worth every penny.
