      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Allows windows to still be opened but not enough for children to come to harm.

When baby proofing my house I never even considered the windows and didn't need to until one of my neighbours children had an accident and fell out of the first floor window (and thankfully survived) since then I became paranoid and never opened my sons bedroom window, then the hotter days came around and my son wanted to play in his bedroom but couldn't until I came across this great invention by Baby Dan - Window Lock, I was lucky enough to find 2 of these reduced in my local Boots and snapped them up for the bargain price of 25p each, I figured if they didn't work then 50p wasn't going to break the bank.

Usual price of these is £8.13 on Amazon which sounds expensive but worth it considering how precious children are. Although I briefly had a look around online and you can get them for around £4.99 also. The pack contains screws and fixtures need to secure the window.

How it works is the 'arm' part connects onto the actual window itself and then a hinge attaches to the frame, this then allows the window to be opened up to 100mm and then the arm gets pushed into place and clips in which keeps the opened window secure. To close the window the arm just lifts up and you slide the window shut.

I had these attached to wooden windows but they also connect to plastic ones too.

My son is frustrated because now he can't see out of the window by opening it wide but for my piece of mind it is so worth it.

Baby Dan are reknown for their child safety products and are a well respected company.

I can now sleep safely knowing that if I leave my sons bedroom window open he can't come to any harm. The window lock is very strong and even my husband couldn't force the window open.

I would like to add that in the event of a fire the arm of the lock can be pushed out to allow the window to be opened fully, didn't want people thinking it was a fire hazard.

For £5 approx per window it is well worth getting these locks as they are truely a godsend.
