Advantages: Helps keep doors and fingers safe
Disadvantages: A bit ugly looking
I have a beautiful door stopper from John Lewis. Its a large glass ball with lots of little air bubbles inside, it looks lovely and really goes with the decor in my house. Its very heavy and works well as a door stopper but I can't actually use it as a door stopper anymore as my little boy likes to roll it and play with it like an actual ball so I've had to take it away from him as its sure to cause some damage soon. Instead, we've had to fit these ugly door stoppers from Boots but hey, they work so I guess that is the main point.
This door stopper is such a simple idea and design. What I like about it is that you can attach it to a door up quite high so its impossible for little kids to play with it and remove it from where you have put it. Basically, this door stopper is just a horse-shoe shaped thick piece of rubber/thick strong foam that you can wedge around the frame of your door to stop the door from slamming shut and trapping little fingers in it. I put mine about three quarters of the way up the door and so when its on you can't actually shut the door all the way but this is fine in our house as we tend to keep doors open anyway and have a flow through the house. The stopper wedges between the door and the frame so it will not close no matter how much force you give it.
I find these have been particularly useful in summer when we have the back door open and the wind from the garden will fling doors shut sometimes so its nice to know that the door cannot shut fast with these protectors on. I also have one of these on each of my children's doors too so they cannot shut themselves inside their rooms and then sit in front of the door so you cannot open it.
I th ink the only disadvantage with these is if you actually do want to shut a door, with them on you can't but the nice thing is that they are easily removable and and not fastened to the door in any way with glue or screws so you can take them off and they have done no damage to your door whatsoever.
Its a bit ugly having a big piece of rubber stuck to your door but the way I think about it is we will only use them for a few years when the kids are really young and then we can take them off and forget about them. Each door stopper costs £4 from Boots and are a safety feature I definitely recommend.
