      Boots safety latches

I now have a little toddler who is wandering around and when I cook in the kitchen she likes to be with me and generally walk around the kitchen. One of her favourite things to do was open all the cupboards and get out all of the contents of the cupboards so a few weeks ago I though it was about time to get some cupboard locks.

In Boots I found in their baby range these multi-purpose latches. According to the back of the box they are for securing cupboards, drawers, fridges or freezer, perfect, exactly what I was looking for. Boots go on to say that they are, "easily fitted to help prevent children from opening cupboards, drawers, etc. They are perfect for use on furniture which has a curved or irregular surface or which opens and closes at the corner. Can be fitted to wood, glass, metal, plastic, laminated or timber veneer surfaces.

Now, I didn't much like the idea of having to drill a hole in all my kitchen cupboards in order to fix a child lock to it so I was happy that these latches basically come with adhesive discs that you basically just stick to either side of the cupboard that you want to keep closed. It was very easy to fix them on. The box advises you to make sure that the surface you want to stick it to is thoroughly clean and not contain any grease, wax or oily residue as the pads will not stick. Then keep ing the latch attached you basically remove the back of the adhesive discs and stick either side of the cupboard door that you want protected.

Now, these are child locks and keep my little girl out but I have to say that they have got me a bit stuck too and try to keep me out of my cupboards too. They are quite hard to open but as they are plastic I think over time they will give. Instructions are given to open them. You basically press the base of the disc against the cabinet with your thumb and gently pull the strap off the disc with your other hand. I have to say you do need to pull a bit more than gently, at the moment they need a good tug so I think if you had any sort of hand problem, arthritis etc these would be quite hard to open. Also make sure your hands are dry as if you try to open these with wet hands you will get no grip whatsoever and your hand will just slip off the plastic.

The latches come in big or small which is nice as some of our bigger cupboards and ones that went round the corner we needed more of a stretch for the latch. One patch costs £4.09 from Boots.
