BT 100 Digital Baby Monitor
Advantages: Clear sound, easy to use, additional nightlight is very useful.
Disadvantages: Polyphonic ring tones sound like something from the 80's
When you plan for your new arrival it's easy to get carried away. For me an essential item is a baby monitor and when my local freecycle group listed this item I snapped it up as the item retails for £49.99!!
I had initially looked at my husband to research a baby monitor but as we have a small home it really didn't need to be all singing and all dancing. The person that was giving this item away could not get the item to work so I gave it to my husband to figure it out.....all it took was batteries!
The baby monitor consists of 2 units, the parents unit and the monitor that remains with the baby. THe monitor offers high definition sound and it is crystal clear thanks to the Dect technology.
The baby's unit is powered via the mains and contains a night light that can be adjusted and an illuminated key pad, there are also a selection of polyphonic lullabies which our baby really does not like so we do not use this feature as it tends to keep him awake rather than soothe him to sleep! This is because they sound like someone trying to play via a computer system and rather than being soothing they sound more robotic.
The parents unit can be used up to 300m indoor and 50m outdoor, we only use it a short distance away from our son just for reassurance really but one feature we do like is that the sound can be turned off and an illumination panel lights up with any noise from the baby.
The parent unit runs off rechargeable batteries and it is very important that only this type of battery is used as standard batteries will just drain really quickly and this was the problem the owner did not realise and thought it was faulty. When the batteries are low a warning light will appear which to me is a necessity for key items like this.
The baby unit can also be used as a portable but will require 4 x aa rechargeable batteries and the parent unit requires 2 x aa rechargeable batteries.
Using the parent unit you can aslo play the nursery rhymes without being in the room which is a great little feature to try and get baby off to sleep without disturbing them by having to go into the room.
I like the way that this acts as a night light as well as this has saved us having to purchase additional night lights and when you have a lack of plug sockets you are grateful that you have this as an added feature.
One of the main benefits of this product is that you can mute the sound on the parent's unit and use the illuminated display to monitor the baby's sounds and movements as it ranges from green right through to red to highlight how much noise is produced from the baby.
There is no interruption with our telephones which are also Dect technology and it does not interfere with our wireless router either which some monitors can.
I am definately happy with my find and think that this is one of the good buys out there.
Summary: A great baby monitor that meets basic needs
