Clippasafe Cabinet Lock
Advantages: Easy to use
Disadvantages: Only suitable for certain cupboards
When my son first became mobile we were in temporary accommodation and had a shared kitchen some of the cupboards had child locks on and others didn't. My son found that nothing gave him greater pleasure than to empty the cupboards and sit inside then crawl in and out. So I rearranged the cupboards so there was one with none breakable items which he could play with.
When we moved to our new home he was fifteen months old and we certainly didn't have the cupboard space for him to have a cupboard simply to sit in. I bought some traditional cupboard locks but I simply could not figure out how to attach them so after looking around found the Clippasafe cupboard locks which actually required no installation and therefore would not cause any damage to the cupboards. I ordered two locks for the two double door cupboards in my kitchen.
I did see these available in other brands but decided on Clippasafe as they are well known for making child safety equipment and this gave me a little peace of mind.
They arrived a few days later and I was delighted to discover how simple they were to use. They arrived on a cardboard backed clear packet so you can see easily what is inside. I did read the instructions and but to be honest it is simple to work out.
The Lock consist of a long loop the loop has raised edges but these are not sharp it has a claps which when the button is pressed both sides works like a zip. To open you simply press both buttons and pull off.
It took a matter of seconds to apply. I did have to ensure that lock was as tight as possible to ensure that he didn't get his fingers caught as he did still attempt to get in the cupboards and if only loosely shut would pull a little.
I have owned these locks now for two years and I only tend to use the lock on the cupboard under the sink as this contains cleaning products so needs to be kept locked. I can say that after two years of testing there is no damage and these look like new. My son who does like to work everything out has simply given up on these locks and doesn't even bother trying. As they are all plastic if they do start to look a little dirty or get spillages it would be very simple to wash with warm soapy water.
You do need to check the type of handles you have on your cupboards before they can fitted and while I only used them in the kitchen they can be used on wardrobes, bathroom cupboards so long as you have a double doors and they have handles that you can thread the loop through.
The Clippasafe door locks are currently available on Amazon for £1.99 each with free postage and I can highly recommend these for anyone with a baby or toddler.
