Advantages: Prevent young kids getting into cupboards.
Disadvantages: None at all.
When our son reached the toddling stage, we realised the importance of making everything as safe as possible. As we hadn't heard of Dooyoo at the time, many of the products we bought were bought with little prior knowledge or experience, and certainly on a "trial and error" basis. Some things that we bought, such as corner cushions and socket covers, were not particularly useful to us, but one product that I can highly recommend is the 6 pack of Clippasafe cupboard locks, which is a bargain at £1.99 for 6 locks.
The locks are plastic catches, which fit just inside cupboard doors, making it very difficult for a child to open the cupboard. The catch is screwed to the door frame, and the hook is attatched by screws to the door itself. When the door is opened, the hook and catch link together, making it impossible to open the door any further unless you unhook it, which of course is simple enough for an adult to do, but not easy for a child to work out.
The catches were easy to attatch to our cupboard doors, and we fixed them to all our kitchen cupboards on ground level. The last thing I wanted was my son opening doors to cupboards containing harmful chemicals like bleach, or messing with glassware or crockery that could be easily broken.
The locks never failed me, not once, and saw us safely through three children at toddling stage. I always found it funny when we went on holiday and had people looking after the house, and I would forget to tell them how the catches worked, so I would definitely classify these as adult proof too, if they don't know how they work!
The kids are now older, and we have since had a new kitchen, so the old units, with their catches still remain. I still have catches on my dresser in the living room, which contains precious photographs, which I don't want the kids messing with unsupervised. Luckily, my 5 year old son still hasn't quite worked out how to open the cupboard!
This is a really simple, inexpensive invention, but one that will surely save lives and improve child safety. It would be really good if all new parents were issued with a pack of these with their Bounty bag or new parent pack when their child is born, as they really are a useful tool. Another bonus is that the locks can also stop pets opening cupboards, as most cats are quite adept at opening doors with their paws!
The locks can also be used on drawers as well as cupboards.
Summary: An essential item for parents with toddlers.
