Advantages: Easy to use, portable, fits variety of doors, stops door slamming, protects little fingers

Disadvantages: Doesn't completely protect on hinge side of door

Anyone who has a toddler in their house will know that they have a real fascination with doors and love shutting them as loudly as they can. The trouble is that they find it far harder to open the door than shut it and dislike being shut in a room. Not only this but there is also a huge risk that their little fingers will get caught as they close the door. One product that I would recommend if you find yourself in the situation where you need to protect little fingers from slamming doors and prevent an inquisitive toddler from shutting themselves into rooms is the Clippasafe Door Stopper that can be purchased from Amazon for the ridiculously low price of £1.99 including delivery.

This U shaped piece of dense foam simply fits over the edge of the door to provide a cushion to prevent the door from closing and so protecting fingers from squashing. This is such a simple and unobtrusive piece of safety equipment and yet a piece that I really wouldn't be without. Although it is only available in white and so can't be purchased in a colour scheme to suit the nursery décor as it required no fixings it can be used on any door and moved from door to door without worrying that it will mark paintwork. Being made of foam with a reasonable amount of give the Door Stopper can be used on doors of varying thickness, from the thin through standard to thick fire doors, all without any adjustments needed.

We've been using the Door Stopper for well over a year now, in fact ever since our now 23 month old started crawling and before he learnt how to shut a door. It's easy to slip onto the door (out of reach) in the morning and just as easy to remove when we want to shut the door. The Door Stopper cushions even the hardest slam and leaves a couple of centimetres gap between the door and the frame to help prevent fingers getting caught. What it doesn't do though is leave enough of a gap at the hinge side of the door to protect fingers from getting caught in there, but it does lower the force that would squash those fingers, reducing the amount of damage that can be done. With well over a year's very regular use the Door Stopper is almost as good as new, there are a couple of indents in it caused by slamming doors but it still fit's the door as tightly as it did on day one and fulfils it's intended purpose.

If you have a toddler and interior doors then I can't recommend the Clippasafe Door Stopper enough. Although very low tech it does an almost perfect job of protecting little fingers and preventing little ones from slamming doors. It is also very hardwearing and will easily survive the timeframe that it will be required and beyond. Finally it is portable and can be used on a wide range of different sized doors, meaning that if you are visiting with your toddler you can take it with you to make the host's house a little more toddler friendly. My only gripes are that it doesn't completely eliminate the danger of fingers getting caught in the hinge side and it's not the most visually pleasing piece of safety equipment. But all in all, I do feel that the Clippasafe Door Stopper deserves a hearty four stars out of five.

Summary: Low tech solution to the age old problem that doors and little fingers don't mix
