Advantages: Fit small babies
Disadvantages: Awkward to attach to anchor straps
The Clippasafe harness seemed ideal for my daughter. At 6 months old she is more mobile and enjoys sitting up in her coachbuilt pram when we are on our daily jaunts around the villages. However, most harnesses seemed too big; this was the exception.
In principal, these adequately serve the purpose for which they are designed. Sure enough, they fit Leah nicely, not too loose, and they adjust well to fit her in any situation. I have just the one complaint about these, albeit a major one :-
Who on earth came up with the design for the rein and anchor strap fixings?!!!
These consist of a semi-circular button which slots into the corresponding fastening on the harness. I can understand that the older harnesses, with the simple clips, may be easier for the children to unfasten, but these are nigh impossible to fasten and unfasten with a wriggling baby attached!
My mother-in-law babysits while I work 2 days a week, and she cannot work these fixings for the life of her! The style also means that you need anchor straps of the same make for all other uses, such as the highchair or pushchair. With the old style clips you could use the D-rings which are usually fixed to such items.
Now, if I want to move Leah from the pram to the highchair, I need to remove the anchor straps from one place to another, fix them around the D-rings, and then try to fix the harness to the anchor straps, all with a bag of jiffle in tow!
Unfortunately, other manufacturers seem to be using this same method of fixing. Only leather harnesses seem to have escaped - and they are all too big for my baby!
