Advantages: Compact, cheap to run, easy to use
Disadvantages: None
My husband and I decided that, with a baby on the way, it was time to think about getting some kind of nightlight for our room, with the primary aim of creating some low level lighting which would allow us to be able to check on the baby, feed and change and whatever else needs doing during the night, when we don't really want to turn on the main light.
Now, we had been told before that running a nightlight can be costly, and so when I spotted this Ecozone Moonlight Nightlight for just under £9 on amazon, with claims of only having running costs of less than 1p a week, I felt this might be the nightlight for us.
The Ecozone moonlight is classified as an energy saviing nightlight, which requires no bulb, and instead is plugged into the electric socket, takiing its power from there. I also liked, from the image on amazon, the idea that it was slim line, and therefore not stick out of the plug socket. As can be seen from the picture above this nightlight gives off a green light, which may not be to everyone's taste, but neither of us have a problem with it. It also claims to be cool to the touch, which I have to say, we have found to be true, despite it being on for long periods of time. This is a reassuring factor for the years to come, when we wouldn't want a child touching a very hot nightlight.
In terms of the enery saving aspect of this nightlight, as I mentioned it claims to run on less than 1p per week, however this is when it used continuously without being turned off. Other stats are quoted with the product claiming that this particular nightlight only uses 2.3kwh per year compared with a standard 7w nightlight bulb which uses aroudn 61kwh. Now, I'm not too hot on energy measurements but you really can't get away from noticing that that is quite a substantial difference in terms of the enery this nightlight uses in comparison to the standard variety.
The manufacturers also claim that since the design of the nightlight is so slimline that it is perfect for travel as well, so you can plug it in whislt away on holiday as well. Of course, this nightlight doesn't have to only be used in bedrooms, and instead can be used in and around the house such as along hallwalls to create that low level lighting affect allowing you to see where you are going without banging into things.
The product comes with a 3 year guarantee which is qutie reassuring given that it conly cost less than £9.
As I said at the beginning of the review we got this product about 3 weeks ago with the intention of using it when our new baby arrives during the summer months, however we have had it plugged in, in our room since getting it for two reasons. Firstly we wanted to get used to having a nightlight on in otherwise dark room, and secondly with me getting to the end of my pregnancy, regular night trips to the toilet can result in me knocking into things or a potential stubbed toe and therefore that is why we have kept it on since we got it, and I have to say that we have been very very pleased with it. Initially it took us a while to get used to the rather alien like green light that is emitted from it, but after it was on for a night, we got used to it, and it certainly provides just the right amount of lighting which doesn't disturb your sleep, but allows me to get up to the toilet without potential risk in the dark. I think this will also work perfectly for when the baby arrives and will allow it to be fed and checked during the night without any need for the main bedroom light to go on.
Obviously we haven't seen our electric bill yet to see if there has been any difference in that regards, but given that all the other claims that the product made have held up, I would be hopeful and confident that the claim in regards to energy saving will be truthful as well - thus making it a very reasonably priced nightlight with great potential electricity savings!
Summary: A great economic nightlight
