My baby son was using a V Tech toy similar to this one which was my daughter's when she was a baby. However, we had lost the cot straps, so I wanted to get him one of his own that could be hung on the cot. I was doing my weekly food shop, and came across this gorgeous Fisher Price one at half price! I paid £14.00 for this toy. Bargain when it Tesco it is originally £28.00.
It came with batteries already installed, although this will most probably vary from where you purchase it from.
I had a play around with the toy first, and was pleasantly surprised by how much it actually does. The most obvious thing is that it has cot straps, so you can attach it to the bars of the cot for your baby to watch. It is very self and secure, and doesn't wobble around at all.
The toy has a waterfall that glows, and you can turn this on or off. There are also lights which are very dim and gently 'pulse' on and off, or you can just turn them off totally and just have the waterfall on. Or, you can turn all the lights off.
There is a monkey and a frog; the monkey swings and the frog plays bee- bo in the leaves. This can also be switched on or off. There is a fish in the water that gently bobs up and down.
The music can play for up to 18 minutes, and you can choose out of classical music, lullabies, or rainforest sounds. You can also have a mix of them altogether.
The volume button has (I think) five different settings, so you can have it on super quiet, or, for the more noisy (or screaming!) baby, very loud!
I think that this toy has definitely helped with my son when he wakes at night. He is lulled to sleep by the sounds the toy makes, and he enjoys watching the lights.
As you may have noticed from some of my other reviews our nursery is the home for many of the Fisher Price Rainforest items and when we were deciding whether to get a cot mobile we came across the Fisher Price Waterfall Peek a Boo Soother.
We purchased our soother from Kiddicare.com for the price of £34.99 the RRP is £39.99 and the item also came with free delivery as we ordered the same time as the cot.
The soother is suitable from birth and unlike the mobile the soother fits onto the side of the cot allowing the baby to interact without having to sit up.
The item arrived in a large box complete with user instructions and batteries included.
When removing it from the box you should be careful as there are plenty of small pieces that could cause a choking hazard and it is important to dispose of these correctly.
~*~Operating the Soother~*~
To operate the soother it requires 4 x "C" size batteries but these are already included with your purchase and located securely in the battery compartment at the rear of the unit.
The soother offers sound, motion and light which is ideal for baby's development.
There are 3 switches to operate the soother:
Simply slide the switch to turn the O position to turn the soother off, >) fo play the soother on a low volume or for high volume >)))
To choose the sounds for your baby the second switch provides 3 options:
A leaf symbol with a music note contained within a circle with a line through plays only the rainforest sounds.
A leaf symbol with a music note plays both the rainforest sounds and the lullabies.
A music note symbol only plays classical music with rainforest sounds.
For lights and motions the third switch again offers 3 options:
>) followed by a light bulb and a monkey image provides the baby with 6 minutes of lights, motions and music.
>)) followed by a light bulb offers 12 minutes of lights and music
>))) provides 18 minutes of music only.
To activate the soother you simply press the toucan which is located to the bottom right corner of the soother and it is deisgned to be operated by both baby and you.
We tend to start the cycle when putting him to sleep and use the music and lights option as this tends to send him to sleep pretty quickly.
The baby really likes the rainforest sounds and we use this along with the Fisher Price Rainforest sounds CD to help soothe him to sleep when out and about.
As the soother is not too bulky it is handy to take away with us and use on other cots as it has a standard fitting.
You can turn the soother off by selecting the off switch.
~*~Attaching to the cot~*~
The soother contains two strong green straps and some string at the very bottom. The soother should be attached to the cot at least 7" above the cot mattress.
To attach each strap should be fixed over the top bar of the cot, then slotted into the back of the soother to fix it into place.
Once both straps are attached the string should be fastened around the cot spindles to secure, this should be tied in a not to prevent it from coming undone and causing harm to the baby.
The soother should fit snugly against the side of the cot and the straps should be used on the tightest possible setting.
~*~Replacing the batteries~*~
To replace the batteries loosen the screws on the rear of the soother with a Philips screwdriver and remove the compartment door. Dispose of the old batteries and replace with new alkaline batteries.
Batteries tend to need replacing when the lights or motions become faint.
When we first purchased this item my husband was really happy with the product and he himself enjoyed the sounds and motion.
The soother is a white plastic base with a clear window which shows the animals of the rainforest. Decorated with vibrant green leaves and blue water in the base of the soother which when the motion setting is turned on it provides a bubbling effect as the fish moves along the bottom of the soother.
A monkey swings back and forth and the tree frog pops up and down from behind some leaves.
As I mentioned before the soother is operated by the brightly coloured toucan located to the bottom right corner and the waterfall in the background rotates and lights up giving a waterfall effect.
As it works as a nightlight and the music is so calming it instantly sends him off to sleep and when he is a little more awake he enjoys looking at the lights and watching the animals move.
As we have other products in the range I think he recognises some of the animals and what is more the soother is easy to keep clean as it just requires a wipe with a damp cloth, but I tend to use an antibacterial wipe periodically to clean the item.
Overall it is well worth the money as it keeps my baby entertained and soothes him so sleep so this is definitely one product that does what it says on the box!
top product - i literally can not fault this product. My son has had this attached to the side of his cot since he was a couple of months old - he is now 20 months old and we have used it nearly every day. It is such a good product that i bought it again for my daughters who also love it (they are 5 months old)
It is easy to use - just press a button on the front which then sets off 18 minutes of serene music which is usually enough time to send the children to sleep. It has volume control and several modes so that you can choose from lullabies, rainforest sounds or classical music. It also lights up but this function is optional. I have tried a few cot mobiles and this is by far the best.
It takes 4 x C batteries. The only thing i would say is that when you open the packaging you are faced with two large straps - it is not obvious that they are actually part of the toy so do not cut them off!
My son loves this Soother, it has been on his cot since the day he was born and is still used every night (he's 14 months now); we even take it on holidays with us!
It is really lovely to look at with aniamls, water and fish and has loads of different settings. Firstly there are three different volume levels, that's the easy bit! You can choose to just play music (18 minutes), Music and lights (12 minutes) and music, lights and movement (6 minutes) we tend to use the sound only option as it stays on long enough for him to fall asleep. You can also choose the type of sound that plays' rainforest noise only, rainforest noise with traditional lullabies or rainforest noise with classical music.
The sound is really relaxing and the fact that it plays for so long compared to similar products is a bonus. The button which starts the music is large and at the front of the soother so that the baby can switch it on by himself when he's old enough, yet it is not easy for them to change the settings. Also, this can be safely used until they get fed up of it, as it can't be pulled off like mobiles. Retails at around £25.
This is a delightful night light by Fisher Price. I really like the Fisher Price brand and buy a lot of their products, as I trust them.
There is a lot to look at, with animals and fish that move in different ways. There are lovely bubbles as well, which are very soothing to little babies.
There is a great deal of variety in this toy. It plays not only the rainforest sounds that you would expect but also classical music and lullabies. It will also play them for different lengths, up to 18 minutes, which so far for our 8 month old, that is too long.
There is a big button in the shape of a bird which must be pressed to be turned on and off. It is big and bright, which means little hands can easily find it and eventually use it.
This product is around £25, which is pretty expensive. However, our son loves it and I do feel we are getting our money's worth out of it. He learnt how to play with it very quickly and now will start to play with it all by himself. He stared at it from a very very young age but at 7 months, really started to get involved with it unaided.
The batteries are C type. They are included and so far ours have not needed to be replaced.
We have bought most of the Fisher Price Rainforest range for our daughter and this soother makes a lovely addition to her cot!
The product has the familiar monkey and frog found on all of this range which play peek a boo from behind leaves. The middle part of the soother has a calming waterfall and the bottom part has a fish which moves via a stream of bubbles!
There are quite a few different combinations of effects, you can have 3 different sounds - rainforest, classical music and lullabies with a range of times from 6 minutes through to 18 minutes. You can have lights gently flashing on and off and there is also an option to turn the moving monkey/frog off - something you might want to consider if you're using it in the middle of the night as the motor for this can be on the noisier side! There is also a volume control too!
The baby can also activate this herself by pressing a colourful toucan at the bottom of the soother, the same toucan also switches it off again if you want to turn it off before the music has finished!
This product is suitable from birth.
The dimensions are as follows: 33 x 27.4 x 9.9 cm and it weighs 1.7kg. It will require 4 size C batteries but these are included.
We paid £25 for this item online, prices on line seem to be around the £25-30 mark. I also saw it in tesco today for £26.
Our daughter loves this soother, she will lie watching it in the mornings especially! I would really recommend it!
Help lull baby to sleep with the soothing waterfall action. Up to eighteen minutes of music with volume control. Two entertaining friends. Lights and bubbles.
