Advantages: Cheap, works just as well as ones costing 5x the price

Disadvantages: -

We bought this baby monitor when my son was a newborn. It cost 」20 and we bought it from Toys R Us. When we were comparing prices we looked at a wide range of monitors, all claiming to do different things. Some were costing in excess of 」100! We just wanted a basic monitor that we could use to hear our son in case he was crying. I was a little dubious about this Fisher Price one as it was so much cheaper than some of the others, but my wife assured me she had read favourable reviews of it so we bought it.

Setting it up is incredibly easy. The microphone bit (please excuse the lack of technical terms!) just plugs in. The microphone is a long stick that you can point in different directions so we just point that at our son's cot. This part has a nightlight that you can touch on or off and is useful when we need to check him in the middle of the night.

The receiver part can also just plug straight in, or it can be ran on batteries. We nearly always have it plugged in, only tending to use it on batteries if we are in the garden. The receiver has a volume dial at the side, ranging from 0-5. After trying it on setting 5 once, I really wouldn't recommend it unless you are having a very noisy party! If a baby cries with the monitor on volume setting 5, it really seems loud enough to shake the walls! I can see this would be useful if you are in a loud setting, or for someone who is hard of hearing. We tend to have it on volume setting 3.

The monitor has 2 channels, an A and a B and this is useful if your monitor is picking up a radio signal as ours occassionally does! We just swap both parts of the monitor to the other channel and it sorts it out.

I have found this to be a great little monitor. I admit I was worried that it wasn't going to be any good, particularly because it was so much cheaper than the others, but happily I have been proved wrong. I have recommended it to a few other people already and will continue to do so.

Summary: Definitely one I would recommend, why pay 」100 when this is just as good?
