Advantages: Easy to use, funky

Disadvantages: expensive

We bought this funky little gadget in preparation for the birth of our baby, we wanted peace of mind knowing the temperature of our bedroom so we could dress baby accordingly at night. Everyone who has or has had a baby knows that keeping baby at the right temperature is important and this is a useful way of keeping an eye on it.

What is it?
A mains powered thermometer for your home which changes colour according to how warm/cold the room is. It has a digital display with the temperature on. Means you can gauge the temperature of the room at a glance.

Why do I need it?
It can be difficult to know exactly how hot/cold your room is, this not only displays the exact temperature but glows in different colours according to how hot/cold the room is.

If the temperature is ‘too cold’ - under 16 degrees C - the egg glows blue.
If the temperature is ‘recommended’ - 16-20 degrees C – the egg glows yellow.
If the temperature is ‘warm’ – 21-24 degrees C – the egg glows orange.
If the temperature is ‘too warm’ – over 24 degrees C – the egg glows red.

If the room is the recommended temperature a smiley face shows on the digital display, if the room is too hot or too cold a sad face shows which is a nice touch!

A safe sleep guide accompanies the egg advising what baby should be wearing and how many layers of blankets/sheets he/she needs according to what colour the egg glows.

How much does it cost?
The grobag egg costs £19.99 new.

What’s good about it?
The colour coded system is an easy way to understand the temperature of the room and therefore create a safe sleeping environment for your baby.
The fact that the egg glows is especially useful at night as you can quickly see how warm the room is and it acts as a night light too.

What’s bad about it?
It’s expensive for what it is.

Would I recommend it?
For peace of mind as a new parent and for some guidance it’s a useful gadget, but it is expensive for what is basically a thermometer.

Summary: Funky, easy to use thermometer to ensure a safe environment for your baby.
