We bought our first Ikea wood stairgate when our oldest daughter (nearly 3 now) first started crawling. And I must say that we have been very happy with it. WE originally bought it because it was one of the cheaper versions that extended out and we had a large opening to cover. But as time went on and we went to friends houses and saw their stairgates, we realised just how great this stairgate is. It is pretty easy to assemble and set up but it does take time and patience and really is a job for 2 to do. not something that you do in a hurry either as it is very important that you get the height of the "lock" hinges right.

The gate is of a light colour wood and looks nice when up. We have since moved and we took the gate with us and had no trouble fitting it again once we where in our new home.

IT is a Hinged gate so it has no step over when you open it. It is also (due to hinges <g>) not a pressure mounted gate so it is suitable for stairs.

The only comment I have about this gate is that the screws that stick the two sides of the gate together does seem to come apart after a little while, but as long as you keep a eye on this and tighten them as soon as you notice a looseness then I have no complaints about it. In fact we have just bought 2 more to go on our stair gate in our new home.
