Advantages: stops baby falling
Disadvantages: ?
A safety gate is one of the most important pieces of equipment to have when you have a baby that is beginning to explore, a baby that is moving on the floor be it rolling, crawling, bottom shuffling or toddling. Baby needs to be prevented from trying to climb or falling down the stairs.
I would recommend a safety gate at both the head and the foot of the stairs.
I have seen lindam safety gates in several houses with children. We also have one at school so that we can open the door into the playground in summer and our children stay in the classroom.
Our doors at school are wide to accommodate wheelchairs. We need the extending metal gate. This fits openings between 62cm and 102 cm.
This gate fits on to the doorframe with easy quick release fittings.
The standard size gates fits doorways 75 to 82cm wide. This one is secured in doorways by suction pads that are held on by the pressure of the gate.
There is also a safety gate available with an alarm that will bleep after the gate has been left open for a few seconds I think l this would be useful in a busy household. The alarm needs 2 AA batteries
Our caretaker fitted ours so I have little idea of how easy it was to install but I think it was not too difficult.
The opening of the extending gate is wide enough for the wheelchairs to go through it . Two gates open in the middle.
The standard safety gate has only one gate to open. This opens from the side.
The catches are not too difficult for adults to open but children have difficulty. They have a push shut mechanism for easy closing.
There is no step on bar at the base so children find it difficult to climb over these gates, saying that most adults can easily cock their leg over it and climb over. Adrian my 2 ½ grandson is a climber and his safety gate another make has now been removed.
All lindam safety gates have been fully safety tested.
