Lindam Two Way Safety Gate
Advantages: strong, safe, easy to fit
Like all new mums (well all mums) I am very very concerned for my daughters safety - if not sometimes even paranoid!! Since my daughter has been on the move i have worried about her climbing up the stairs and falling back down them so a safety gate was very high up on my list of things to buy.
I have bought a few baby gates, for at both my house and my mums for when she is babysitting and i have a couple of different types of gate from the standard climb over gate to the mesh climb over gate. For my daughters bedroom i decided the best kind of gate would be one that opens and on the recent baby event at Asda i spotted the lindam two way baby gate and at just £15 i thought i'd snap it up - what a bargain!
Fixing the gate to the doorway:
To fix the gate to the doorway is a very simple process, the gate comes with 4 protection cups each with a hole in so you can either screw them to the frame or just rest them on while you tighten the gate into place. I decided to screw them in for extra hold so there'd be no risk of my daughter forcing it out of place as she gets bigger and stronger. Once the cups are in place, you need to put the metal bars of the gate into them and then turn the "wheel" to tighten the gate enough to be secure in the frame. I would say it took maybe ten minutes in total to get the gate securely on which when including screwing the four holes in the frame i think isn't bad at all!
The gate fastens with a clip type handle, to open you need to release both sides of the clasp (which can be pretty tricky if you have only one free hand!!), then lift the handle and the gate will open either towards you or away from you whichever you prefer. I like this aspect of the gate as the other door gate i have only opens one way. If you wish you can climb over the gate as you can with the standard ones with no opening in, when i've been carrying my daughter to bed asleep and had no hands free to open the gate i have climbed over with ease.
I think this is a really good gate, there's no way my little girl can open it so i am completely confident of her safety and with the knowledge that she can't fall down the stairs it makes me much happier! So far she hasn't attempted to climb over it, how long that will last i don't know, but it does seem quite tall compared to my gate at the bottom of the stairs so again i feel better knowing this.
I can't recommend this safety gate enough, it is the best one i have come across so far!
Five out of five stars from me!
Summary: a good safe gate
