Mothercare Corner Cushions
Advantages: When they work they are protective.
Disadvantages: Fall off, remove surface from table, expensive, attract babies attention.
My Mum is quite conscious of child safety and her house is full of lots of different gadgets that she has picked up to prevent any harm coming to her precious grandchildren when they come to visit.
My mum has a long rectangle coffee table which has sharp corners on it and on each of the corners she has a corner guard from Mother care (8 corners for £5.99).
These corner guards come with self adhesive pads and they are designed to be stuck down to anywhere that has a corner and could potentially cause injury to your little one (or even your pet!). I must say that the corner guards are not very aesthetically pleasing but they are very simple to fit to your table.
As with most things these corner guards seem to be grabbing the attention of my nieces & nephews when they visit at Mums house and it's only a matter of time before they manage to start peeling them off. This is then quite worrying as they are already over near the table pulling off the corners and as two of them are just 18 months it's not hard to picture one of them toppling over and then hurting themselves on the corner.
Without these corner guards my nieces & nephews may not be attracted to the table to try and remove them and I have noticed that with my niece in particularly these are her first port of call when she is put down on the floor.
I must say that these guards are not particularly effective, they are quite expensive for what they are (very small) and if you have an uneven table or a slightly rounded corner then these won't be able to fit on your table. The adhesive pads aren't particularly strong as my niece and nephew are 18 months and they have both managed to pull the corners off before now so then they become a potential choking hazard for little ones. Also, these guards have slightly damaged the finish on the edges of my mums coffee table which is another disappointment and overall I would rate this product just 1/5.
These guards are nothing special and while, in theory, they are a fantastic idea they just aren't very well made, or suitable for lots of different table types. They are overpriced and if an 18 month old can remove them a younger child probably could too!
I definitely would not recommend these as they are just going to be a waste of money as they will probably just attract your childs attention and lead to them potentially having an accident.
Summary: A very average corner guard that I wouldn't recommend.
