Advantages: good idea

Disadvantages: everything else!

Once my little girl started walking, my mum became quite concerned about the safety issues and one of the main worries she had was that my daughter would walk into the corners on certain objects and hurt herself. In my mum's kitchen she has a large oblong dining table and the corners on there are quite prominent really so that was her main concern. I remember many years ago my brother fell and banged his mouth on the corner of the table and knocked one of his teeth back and had a very bad bust lip and we were worried that the same might happen to my daughter.

One afternoon in Mothercare, my mum was hunting for some cupboard locks when she came across the corner cushions and immediately decided she was going to pick up a packet and child proof the corners. There are eight corner cushions per packet and the cost of this is £5.99 which at the time didn't seem too bad.

We got them home and straight away my mum set to putting them on the corners of the table, and they have self adhesive pads on the back which makes it possible to stick them almost anywhere. We had one on each corner of the table and then we put them on the corner of the worktop also even though at the time that was out of reach of my daughter. I wouldn't say the cushions look particularly nice even though they are clear, if anything I think it makes it look pretty cheap and my mums table is anything but cheap!

Initially we thought the cushions were a great thing, we tried walking into them ourselves to see if it hurt, tried smacking our hand against them and yes it did minimise the pain somewhat. However, seeing something different on the table quite quickly grabbed my daughters attention and she of course had to investigate.....resulting in the cushion being quite easily removed from the corner! I hadn't even thought to try and see how easy they could be peeled off the table and was very shocked to see how simple it was for my one year old daughter to do!! I put the cushion back on the table but now that my daughter had the idea, there was no way they were going to stay on at all. I now wonder if actually putting the cushions on the table made my daughter more interested in heading for the corners!

My personal opinion of the corner cushions is that while it is a fantastic idea, they are actually rubbish! I now realise how unbelievably expensive they are and really don't do the job they are intended for as they come off so easily. You will find that they aren't suitable for many tables and if you have rounded edges on your table, while you probably don't need them some parents I know still wanted something like this, but they just won't go on.

I really can't recommend the corner cushions to anybody, I think they are a total waste of money and of course a much cheaper option is to just watch your child closer!

I can only give these corner cushions a poor one out of five stars which is sad as the idea is good!
