Advantages: Keeps children safe, cheap and effective

Disadvantages: none

Safety is a main priority when you have children. You will find that if something can be done they will find a way of doing it.

A prime example was my son at just over 6 months old. I live in a council property so any repairs that need doing I give them a call. One day I noticed my plug socket in the living room was starting to come away from the wall so I contacted them to come and fix the problem. I told the electrician that the back box had gone and needed a new one and of course he took no notice and just put new screws in. I don't think the electrician was even back in his van before I had to call him back, my son had watched what he had done crawled over to the socket and gave it one good tug and off the wall it came. The electrician then fitted a double socket rarther than a single and screwed it in somewhere else.

This gave me alot of bad thoughts though due to I had not bought any safety features for my home at this point and he had done one of the most dangerous things that I could imagine.

I decided to pop into mothercare the next day and at the back of the store they had a wide range of different safety features from door locks to draw locks. In this one pack there were 2 plug socket covers that cost around £2 a pack at the time (you can get them much cheaper now). I picked up 3 packs of these I was not taking any chances with any plug that was on show.

The way that they work is that they plug into your socket like a normal plug would but they are almost flush with the socket so children would find it very hard to get their little fingers round to pull them out. They are made out of plastic so if the child does switch the switch on the electricity will not be conducted through.

I have still got my home full of these due to having more children and also having so many people visit me with young children, I have been told I have one of the most child friendly homes ever.

These are a cheap but effective product that should be invested into any home with a young child living there or even visiting, sometimes you can never take enough precautions.

Summary: Must have for every home that has young children
