Mothercare Socket Covers
Advantages: Seven17 proof (idiot proof) - and toddler proof.
Disadvantages: Strange holes on the front which i never use.
I bought a large quantity of these over a year ago to prevent fingers getting into plug sockets. The problem is, i struggle with them myself, and even I cant get them out. I don't have nails so have to get sharp objects like a screwdriver, a knife or anything like that behind them to carefully lift them out of the mains socket.
They are made from a very thick plastic and there is no compromise where robustness or rigidity is concerned. They do not wiggle about once in the socket and they are quite smooth so toddlers wont be cutting themselves or injuring themselves on them either.
These are relatively strong and can withstand knocks or dings with the hoover from time to time. i have yet to break one. Even the prongs at the end that fit into the sockets are quite sturdy and hard to snap. They slide right to the back of the sockets providing a good, and safe security over the top of the socket holes.
These come with little bumps and gaps on them, and i guess you can use tools or special removal items for these but i didn't bother because whilst they are hard for me to get off, i don't see the point in spending extra money. i can't see any other purpose for these holes but they don't reveal any of the socket holes so theres no way children can get into them. Very sturdy, very safe and well thought out.
These are somewhat scratch resistant and it's hard to get the paint to wear off. I often find that light surface marks appear when they are scraped but can only be seen in the sunlight. Like i said when you smack them with the corner of a hoover they don't shatter to pieces or get dents in them. Watching kids try and pick them off and fail is quite a big relief and also frustrating... for them.
They are painted white and do not come in any other colour so you get what you're given. Most plugs are white but i have seen some special design ones which these will not look good on. You should also watch out if you have rounded edge sockets at the top and sides as these might not fit well.
Overall though these are excellent little things, cheap enough to buy and frustrating for children and myself to get off. That can be a good thing though, parents, you just need something sharp to leaver them out.
Summary: Great little things, cheap to buy, and prevent death... that's a full five stars from me.
