After Christmas, we decided it was definitely time for our son Harry to come out of his cot and into his single bed. Luckily, my parents had given us my old single bed to use, so we already had the bed and just needed to buy a duvet, pillows, and bedspread...and the ultimate accessory for a toddlers bed, the all-important bed-guard. Harry is in an incredibly fidgety child in his sleep, so we knew we would definitely need one. So we trawled the internet just to see what sort of guards were available and what sort would be suitable for Harry's single bed with pine slats on the base. We found quite a few, but delivery times were going to be a week plus, no good ... Read the complete review

Child safety is a constant from the moment they are first born until they are old enough to go off on their own and I suspect long after that. As each stage of a childs behaviour comes along then there are safety concerns, so when you get to the 2-2 and a bit year olds then its time for them to leave their cots and sleep in a big bed. However, there is the height problem, children roll around the bed like its a playpen but of course the bed can be 2-3 foot off the ground and therefore there is the fall problem and the potential for breaks and worse. So for that first year or so there are guards which can be placed on the bed and stops them falling out once ... Read the complete review

The transition from cot to bed is another great milestone in the journey of a baby into a fully fledged independent little person. Our oldest son remained in his (converted) cot bed until he was nearly five years old. We simply needed to remove the sides of the cot bed and, for extra reassurance, fitted one of these Mothercare fabric based bed guards on to the open side of his bed, to prevent him from rolling out and injuring himself during the night. That guard remained in active use for a good year or so, until we were confident that he no longer needed it. The guard has been in storage in the loft since then but, thankfully, is still in as good as new ... Read the complete review

You know your baby isn't a baby anymore when the time comes for them to move from a cot to a bed. It can be a daunting experience for both baby and parents. To go from a small enclosure with bars all around you, to loads of freedom all in one swift movement. It's anybody's guess as to what could happen next. I shopped around quite a bit before getting this bed guard from Mother care. I remember having a guard with my older daughter that sometimes didn't appear altogether safe and my reassurance in the product wasn't that great. Years have passed and technology has changed thankfully, as there is a lot more choice on the market now than a few years ... Read the complete review

By her first birthday my daughter was a big girl, measuring much bigger than her age and she also rummaged a lot in her sleep. She was in a sleeping bag so this often meant she would turn 180 degrees whilst asleep and she often woke up because she had managed to wedge herself crossways in the cot. We decided to move her into a big bed to give her more space at night. We bought a junior bed so that it would be suitable for her for the next few years. Although one side of the bed was up against a wall and there was a small guard on the bed I wasn't happy that it offered enough security to keep her in bed at night. Even though the bed was low and if she did ... Read the complete review
