My eldest son has always been a huge fan of Peppa Pig and has many toys, bedding, cups etc of their stuff. Peppa pig toys etc seem to be very girl orientated and there is only a small selection of personal items you can buy for boys. I have spent many an hour searching for things.
For my son's room I really wanted to get him one of those Go Glow lights but the Peppa pig one was pink and girlie. I was a little disappointed. It took a bit of searching but on the Boots website I found a Wesco Peppa Pig torch and nightlight by characterland. I couldn't have been more pleased and I was so exciting waiting for its arrival. On arrival I was slightly disappointed by the feel and quality of it but never the less thought my son would like the look of it.
The torch and nightlight would be ideal for a little boy Peppa pig fan but just as good for a little girl. The torch and night light is a pale yellow rocket. There is a small painted on window on the rocket and the head of either Peppa or George I am not too sure from just the head. The base the torch rocket sits on is a round green base. It has a small push button on the base for on and off. The button is also green so it doesn't stand out and take the look of a rocket on grass away.
As I have said on opening the box I was disappointed with it. The size of it looked a little feeble. The whole thing is about 17cms tall and feels quite thin. The actual rocket torch you remove from the base is 13.5cms in height and the green base is about 3cms high. These are just rough measurements give or take a few millimeters here and there. But the overall feel of the night light wasn't as good as I thought it would be.
At the same time of us buying our son this torch and night light my youngest son was bought an In the Night Garden Go glow light by a family member. So now we have two and I do compare the two! The difference in quality is very noticeable in my eyes.
So how does the Peppa pig torch and night light work? It is ran on four AA batteries which I have found handy as positioning it in the bedroom is very easy. I have had to only change them once since buying the product over a year ago. But that's maybe because we hardly use it. When the torch is sat on the base you press the green on off switch and the rocket lights up. It has a nice subtle glow to it which is great for leaving on till your little one is asleep. It does look very cool and my son loved it. To use the torch you remove the rocket from the base when it is switched on. It is all fairly straight forward to use and my son has had no problems with this.
So far so good! But that is where it stops. If you're after a lovely little decoration for your child's bedroom you have got it here. But if you're after something practical that works well for a young child look elsewhere.
My first problem with this item is the torch. Unlike the nice chunky torch you remove from the Go Glow light with the big wide beam with this you get a small screw head size beam from a very small torch bit. The underneath of the rocket is poor and in my eyes not very child friendly. It has a small thin metal screw like thing to connect it to the base. This is recessed into to the torch so wouldn't course any damage to your child but looks rather rubbish! The whole bottom of this torch is poor and doesn't have the quality of the Go Glow light which I wouldn't mind if it had been a lot cheaper.
My other problem with this item is the durability of the product. We have had it for just over a year and the rocket no longer lights up on the base. After about six months of very little use it stopped working. The torch bit still works when removed from the base but no glow of the rocket. I find this quite poor.
My son was thrilled with it when he opened it up. He immediately recognised it to be Peppa Pig's rocket. He loved the aspect of the torch and night light and thought it was great in his room. He didn't notice the poor quality I did and was very happy with it. When my youngest son received his Go Glow light he did prefer the torch on his brothers but he still didn't care as his was Peppa Pig!
Unfortunately his enthusiasm for the product didn't last and he stopped using his and preferred to use his brothers. He still does use his brothers especially to find his taggie blanket in the night as it always seems to slide down his bed. When the night light broke on his Peppa pig rocket he gave up on it completely and now it sits at the back of the chest of drawers untouched.
At the time of buying this I paid over £25 for it from Boots getting it in the 3 for 2 promotion over the Christmas period. I have since seen it on Amazon for a reduced price of £18. I wouldn't recommend buying this product. It does look nice and the night light is pretty cool when it does light up but the quality just isn't there for me. If I ever replaced it I would always buy a Go Glow light instead.
