With so many baby monitors on the market it is difficult to know which one to buy. The price tends to vary so much too. I opted for the Phillips Babyphone monitor which is one of the more basic models. It has 100m range and two channels. There are power on, range and low battery indicators. This model can be mains operated and the two adapters needed for this are supplied. If you prefer to use batteries you will need 4xAA batteries. I found the monitor to be suitably sensitive picking up any significant noises made by my child. I did however go through several weeks where I also picked up the sounds of another baby - this was quite weird! It also left me wondering if I could hear them what could they hear coming from my house? A change of channel soon put a stop to this though. This model did the job I wanted for a relitavely low price.
