Advantages: discreet and minimal damage to units
Disadvantages: more expensive than most
Just before my daughter Shannon was born we had a new kitchen fitted.
We wanted to ensure that we had all the usual child proof locks on the
cupboards but at the same time we did not want to have to drill holes
or put screws in the front of our brand new units.
We went back to M.F.I where we got the kitchen from to ask their advice
and they recommended Safe-Fix.
Safe-Fix are magnetic locks that are so discreet that you do not know that
they are there. A small magnet is fitted inside the unit. To open the cupboard
you place the magnetic key on the outside of the door and this releases the
latch inside. When you remove the magnetic key the latch automatically
closes again and when you shut the door it locks itself.
One pack consists of a single latch and two magnetic keys.
The only down side I can say about these locks is that they do take a little
getting use to. You need to place the magnetic key directly over the latch
for it to open. After a while however you learn where it needs to go and
It is no longer a problem.
