“ Brand: Safety 1st / Safety Type: Household Safety & Child Proofing „
I bought the Safety 1st Corner Cushions about 2 years ago. My then 2 year old daughter's head had reached a height which meant she was always banging into the corners of the island in our kitchen (very hard corners!)
The cushions come in a pack of 4. They are transparent and made of a very rubbery type of flexible plastic.
The cushions are shaped like a right angle, with each side being about 1.5 inches long. The corner is very rounded and absorbs impacts well, so in theory, if your child banged their head on them they would not hurt themselves.
The cushions come supplied with a set of sticky tabs. The tabs are sticky on both sides - the idea being that you remove the backing paper and stick 3 tabs to the cushion, one on each side and one on the top. You then remove the backing strips from the other side of the tab and it will stick on to the sharp corner which you wish to cover.
I followed the directions and stuck the corners onto my island. My little girl walked in, spotted the tabs straight away (without being prompted), walked over and pulled them off! We would re-stick them, but they would immediately be removed.
I doubt this would be a problem that is exclusive to my children, I imagine that this is what the majority of inquisitive toddlers would do.
The cushions do have 3 circular holes in them - one on each side and one at the top, which are presumably to allow you to attach them with screws if you wish. This would make them work a lot better, but it's a bit drastic for my liking as you would be permanently damaging the furniture.
I also stuck one of the cushions onto a piece of furniture with a sharp corner that I kept scratching myself on. The corner cushion wasn't tampered with by my kids, but after a couple of months dropped off anyway. I was annoyed to find that it had damaged the finish on my furniture - removing some of the stain, so you do need to be careful what you apply the cushions to.
To me these cushions were pretty useless, but if screwed in they would have done the job.
My daughter quickly learnt that if she ran in to the corner of the island, she was going to bang her head, so became a lot more careful around it. She's now tall enough for it not to be a problem anymore and with our subsequent 2 children we haven't bothered and they have survived unscathed so far!
I paid around £1.99 for these cushions, so they were cheap enough, however they were a waste of money for me.
