I bought a safety 1st cupboard catch for keep my daughter out of the cupboard under the sink where I keep chemicals that could be dangerous to her. I bough a pack of cupboard catches from the pound shop you can guess how much they cost me! There was two safety catches in the packet.

When I arrived home, I opened the packet and took out the catch. The catch came in two parts one part was a small split that I needed to fit inside the cupboard the other part was a longer white piece, which I had to fit onto the door.

The catch needed to be attached to the cupboard with screws. My partner fitted the catches, which was straight forward they needed to be lined up then fitted onto the door with two screws in each part.

Once the catch had been fitted u pulled the door to open the cupboard and it all seemed to work really well. I felt very confident that my child could not get into the cupboard and these cheap and easy catches had put my mind at rest. I found it quite easy to open the cupboard by adjusting the slot in piece each time I opened the door.

All was well until my daughter reached about 1 2/2 years old when the cupboard locks were not strong enough to keep her out! It began when she started to get more forceful and began pulling the doors so they opened a little then banging them shut.

Occasional the doors bite her fingers but she was not going to be deterred by a snappy door that bites! After a few hours of banging (several determined sessions), the catches began to give until one day about 3 days after she decided she wanted to get into the cupboards she won the fight with the door and it opened! She soon learnt that once the catch has a bit of give it you quickly pull the door open hard it will snap out of the grove in the catch and open.

So I would say for a quid they are worth a try but do not rely on them. Also now, she is older and I can trust her not to go in cupboards etc I am a bit annoyed about the screw holes that are left in my new kitchen cupboards from the catch!
