Advantages: Quick and easy to fit. Portable

Disadvantages: Only for temporary use

We have had fixed baby gates in the house since our daughter started to move about. We also brought one of the Safety First portable barriers. This is a mesh and plastic gate, which rolls down, and fits into a bag. When collapsed it about the size of a large rolled umbrella. It's adjustable to fit openings sized between 70 and 96.5cm, which covers all the doorways in our house. It's quick and easy to install, using a pressure system. It's been a really useful piece of equipment which has been used both home and away.

At home it's handy to shut off places temporarily. For example our kitchen hasn't got a door, just an arch. If I'm opening the oven a lot, and don't want my daughter coming in, the barrier can be unrolled and fitted very quickly. A fixed gate would be a nuisance on this opening, and unnecessary for most of the time, but the temporary one is great. I have also used it when we had a new carpet laid, to keep her away from the fitters and their sharp tools.

We have taken it out a lot. It's great for when you are visiting people who do not have young children. Our daughter had a real fascination with stairs, long before she could climb up and down safely. We could put it at the bottom of the stairs when we arrived at someone's house, and know that she was safe all the time we were there. Although we didn't, you could take the barrier on holiday with you. It rolls down small enough to put in a large suitcase.

The only disadvantage to this barrier is that it very much a temporary one. If you need a safety gate which will be up all the time, this is not the right one to buy. It doesn't open in anyway. To go through it you would either have to climb over the barrier, or unscrew it all the time. There are lots of gates on the market which are better suited for continual use. However for temporary use or traveling, this is an excellent safety barrier.

I've changed it. Can't see it makes alot of difference, but then I'm not reading it!

Interesting, but would be easier to read with a few breathing spaces, i.e. printed in shorter paragraphs.
