~*~*~ Safety 1st Safety Harness ~*~*~
~ What is it? ~
This is a safety harness which can be used to safely sure your little one in a high chair/walker/pram or as a walking rein which it was I mainly used it for.
It is made from a thick material like most straps are made from, I am guessing nylon? And it is coloured in navy and green, it is mainly navy with green stripes running through it, the clips and plastic parts are all made from a strong navy blue plastic.
In the pack you get the harness, two anchor straps and the long rein strap.
It is easy to use and easy to slip onto a wriggling baby or toddler.
~ Price & Availability ~
I bought this in Wilkinsons when my 5yr old was around 2yrs old and I paid around about the £5 mark, however I can see that it is available on Amazon for £6.44 and also at Halfords for £5.99.
~ My thoughts ~
My son wasn't a lover of his prams, he would much rather be up and walking around. Walking around is all good and well when they understand what they should and should not be doing and of various dangers etc. It was then I realised I'd rather eat a fistful of wild bees than chase him around the supermarket whist trying to catch the various objects he threw from the shelves so I decided to invest in a set of reins.
I bought a set for my eldest son when he was little as he climbed out of everything, he rarely sat still which wasn't ideal when he was in his highchair so the harness came in handy for keeping him in one place for long enough to finish his food but I didn't need the harness for this reason with my third son.
The Safety 1st Safety Harness came in a card backed blister pack which was easy to open and use there and then without the need for a chainsaw to hack through the packaging! I slipped the harness over my sons arms and fastened it with the sturdy clip at the back, I then clipped in the reins strap and we were ready to go. He had free rein and could walk to his little hearts content whist really I had full control of where he went AND how fast he went!
At the front of the harness, on the bit that is against the child's chest is a small plastic panel which makes it more comfortable for the child than a knotted lump.
The reins are strong and sturdy and never felt like they would break, even with my son having a 'throw himself around' tantrum.
I felt my son was safe with these on and am currently using them with my 19 month old son when we go to do the school run. He likes to walk a little bit but is generally quite lazy so I tend to keep this harness in the pram bag so that if he is having a little scream and shout it is easy enough to get him out of his pram, slip this over his shoulders and have him walk with me.
I have washed them in the machine on a 30° and then I just hang them up to dry so not to damage the plastic parts of the harness.
The colours are not the most attractive and I would probably have rathered a brighter blue but they do the job intended perfectly and keep my son in a safe distance whilst letting him have a bit of freedom.
I have never had a problem with them not wanting to wear it and it fits well over t-shirts and coats alike due to the expandable straps.
