I have always been very conscious of child safety .It is essential as a parent you look round a room at look at the hazards for your child dependent upon the child and their motability. Some children are far more adventurous than others and it is often needed to second guess likely hazards before they occur.
My son has been the kind of child who was able to climb the stairs before he could walk and has a compulsion to touch everything he can actually reach so I do consider these to be important. One day when I was in the kitchen. I heard a scream and knew he has hurt himself so ran into the other room to discover he had trapped his finger on the hinge side of the door. I was filled with Panic as to how to remove him without harming him further but was lucky he only ended up with a red finger with a slight bruise. This did not deter him from playing with the door.
I decided to purchase some safety first slam stoppers these are large white hard foam that is flexible enough to stretch over the edge of the door but sturdy enough to stay in place.
The great thing about this product is that it can be attached in seconds. It can be attached to any height and I tended to put it up high so that it couldn't be tampered with. I do like the fact it is wide enough to fit over the PVC back door as well as internal doors. Another great benefit is that is can be fixed without any damage to the door and can be moved from door to another where ever needed. This makes them ideal for taking on holiday and for visiting relatives and friends who do not have their home set up for little ones.
Once my son grew to an age where he started climbing over his stair gate I found he was running into my room at night and slamming my bedroom door. I moved one to my bedroom door to prevent accidents when my sleepy little boy was running through his house but also to prevent waking the neighbours in the night.
I did find I needed a couple of these to keep my son's fingers in tact but they do tend to come in packs of two. This is one piece of equipment that I would definitely recommend. I do still use these occasionally particularly when other children are playing. My son does like doors shut and when and argument begin about the door I do inform everyone to keep the door open but these are an extra safeguard that toddler bickering doesn't result in a trip to A & E.
I found these in a pack of two for £1.44 with £2.50 postage and packaging on Amazon market place. It is easier if you can but a couple of packs simply save moving them around frequently but a small price to pay for your own child's safety as well as that for a visiting children.
