I bought this safety gate mainly as a deterent from stopping my son from going into the kitchen when he was younger. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on it as it was only when he was at the annoying stage of throwing everything out of the cupboards. I paid less than £15 and got it from Argos

It looks nice enough, has a wooden frame and a plastic webbing inside. The webbing is see-through so you are able to keep an eye on the child at all times.

It isn't as tall as other safety gates I have used, an adult can step over it without the need to open it if their hands are full. It stands at 24 inches high and expands from 27-42 inches.

This safety gate is pressure mounted so it doesn't need tools for installation and is easily adjusted to get a secure fit for different doorway sizes. I found it a bit tricky to make the gate sturdy at first, it kept falling down with the slightest movement against it. After reading the instructions properly I realised that I had it on the wrong setting. Once it is on the correct setting for the door size then it should be sturdy. The gate works with tension so it must be mounted tightly. It doesn't budge at all now.

The lock is easy to use and has a simple release handle. On the lower lock are the number of inches that is the width of the doorway, attach the metal latch to the correct number of inches and clip down. To release you just lift it up. The latch is on the side opposite to the side which the child would be on so they can't reach it.

The gate isn't as safe as a plastic one would be mostly due to the height but you get what you pay for. I wouldn't recommend it for use at the top of the stairs but for areas less dangerous than it is ideal. It could also be used for small pets.
