Worth trying out as they can work well

Spacebabies Baby Bed Blocks are something that we bought when our child was unwell with a nasty chesty cough and cold. At the time they had been recommended by a friend who had used them to great effect. On that basis we decided to buy them and we found they were very helpful.

When wanting to review them here, at first I couldn't find a listing for them, so made a product suggestion. Happily Dooyoo pointed me in the right direction to find them, so here are my thoughts.

      **********************************************************
In the past I know that when discussing these with my own parents they said that propping up the top end of a babys cot when the child was suffering from a blocked nose and chesty cough, was considered to be of great help. I had often placed a small slim pillow under the top end of the cot mattress, in order to ease breathing difficulties as it had been recommended to me.

The idea of the Spacebabies Baby Bed Blocks is very similar except where as I had previously used a pillow to raise the height under the mattress, the use of the Spacebabies Baby Bed Blocks could do the same thing in a slightly different way. The blocks are something that you place under the top two cot legs, to very slightly raise the end where your childs head rests.

      **********************************************************
Each pack of Spacebabies Baby Bed Blocks has 6 of the mini cot raising blocks in the pack. This is enough for you to be able to raise the cot head up to 3 blocks higher if needed. The blocks can be used either 1 at a time or in a small pile of up to 3. If using all the blocks the maximum you can raise the cot is 10cm, so its roughly around 3.5cms height improvement per Spacebabies Baby Bed Block.

The shape of the Spacebabies Baby Bed Blocks is carefully designed so that they lock together safely and securely. Each block can be stacked on top of another to form a small stack which you can place under the top legs of a cot, as long as the cot legs are not more than 7cms in diameter. The blocks have a flattened well shape in the middle with a raised outside rim which holds the cot legs firmly in place.

      **********************************************************
When we used the Spacebabies Baby Bed Blocks we always made sure that the slope we set when using the blocks wasn't too steep. We often found we only needed to raise the cot by just one or two of the blocks and found that a more gentle slope was better for our child, as during the night babies do tend to move about and we didn't want our child to end up facing in the wrong direction with the cot sloping the wrong way.

Happily we didn't find that happened when using these, but we did find that they seemed to help ease our childs breathing, as they helped to promote a better sleeping position which can take the pressure away from a congested chest. When we used these we felt confident that we had fitted them safely and securely and thought the method was more reliable than wedging a pillow under the top end of the mattress.

      *********************************************************
To rate the Spacebabies Baby Bed Blocks I feel they ought to get 4 stars. We found they did help our child to breathe better during colds and coughs and they fitted nicely under the cot legs without causing any wobbles or worries.

We paid £12.99 for a set of six of the blocks, which at the time did seem like quite a lot for a small set of 6 stacking blocks. However after having used them, you do appreciate that they are made to fit safely under a standard cot leg and can offer some degree of easing of stuffy chesty congested chests. This makes them more than worth the price we paid.

      * NB: As with any similar product these should always be used responsibly and placed on a secure level surface.

bed blocks to lift cot a 10 out of 10 product

        Why we tried these
        ****************
Last year when my son developed a summer cold and cough he kept waking in the night several times due to cough. Although he didn't say it after all he was only 6 months at the time! I was sure it was due to him being blocked up and finding it harder to breath. When I asked friends and family for advice on this they all suggested raising his cot at one end with some books or a pillow under the mattress. Now for us the pillow under the mattress wouldn't have worked as this would of meant it interfered with his sensor mat alarm and monitor and being a neurotic first time mum the thought of him having breathing problems with his cold and then not being able to hear this problems or be able to respond if he went into respiratory distress was just a no no. Equally the idea of books under his cot just seemed wrong you can't treat books that way! Also due to my neurotic mum status I worried that the books would some how slip and the cot would then fall over with my son in it.
So ok of I went to my local baby shop to find a solution to this problem I hoped and that is I Found these bed blocks.

What the manufacture claim and say
        ******************************
"Does your baby have a cold, a blocked nose or earache?
Place Baby Bed Blocks® under the legs at the top end of the bed to make it easier for the child when it is unwell. Pediatricians recommend Baby Bed Blocks® instead of pillows for young children. Place up to three Baby Bed Blocks® under each leg at the top of the child's bed, and carefully check that the slope of the bed is just right, so that the child does not slide down. The Baby Bed Blocks® raise the bed max 10 cm and are suitable for most legs with a diameter of less than 7 cm."

        What are they?
Each pack contains 6 plastic, prettily colored blocks 2 yellow 2 blue and 2 green. These are of equal size approx 10cm wide with an inner diameter to fit a cot or bed leg of 7cm diameter or less. You can use up to 3 blocks under each leg. They are stable, durable, easy to clean and not too bulky to store away between uses.

        Our experience
        ***************
We found these to be invaluable once we cot them and once we started using them though he would still cough at times he returned to his normally waking times. We bring these out now every time he has a cough and cold and find that they alongside of things do mean he gets a better nights sleep which when he is unwell is invaluable. We actually keep on block under his cot errantly now which acts as a raising up similar to a pillow for him to use. I wont use more than this permantley as sometime he did roll down to the bottom of the cot if he had the full three blocks under the cot leg.

        Would I recommend them
        ************************
Definitely and especially if your child gets ear infections I would say these would be a great thing to use.

        Where from
        *****************
As I say I bought them from our local baby shop for £14 but these are available at Babyworld Amazon Boots with prices varying from £18.50 (Amazon) to currently on offer at Boots for £10.17
